anyone have links or info about Gevarm 22's? Like cleaning info, or any special info about this rifle? Is there a way to make the bolt strike the bullet with less force? The knock from the bolt hitting the cartridge is a lot stronger than the "recoil" of the .22 cartridge.

I sure love this rifle, even though its a pig to carry! Its long and weighs a ton!

anything I have to watch out for with this rifle? The open-bolt action gives me the heeby jeebys. I always worry that the primer will go off before the round is properly chambered!

Not sure what Gevarm you have . The Gevarm E1 is a take down model of which I have had several . they are 1" longer than a 1022 & weigh less . cleaning it is simple . remove the barrel & forarm by undoing the screw at the front of the forarm . remove the clip . push the tab behind the mag well forword this will let the bolt go forword & pull the cocking handle out of the bolt . the bolt will move forword & catch . push the tab again & the bolt will come out . & thats it . No way to lighten the force of the action without causing problems . these are very simple actions with few moving parts . & I have never had a missfire as you can see from the fired cases . These guns are based on SMG like the sten .The hardest thing is to find a 20 shot mag for one .they did make them

I dont know what model I have either... Not many markings on it. Here are a few pics.
I have a 20 rounder, but not with me at the moment :)

What is the textured part at the back of the action for? Looks like it unscrews or something.. I havent touched it - too scared to break this beauty.

And yes, I do know the scope is mounted super high.. but the mounts were free haha so I am not complaining.

OK that is definatly not the take down model . I had one like that many yrs ago . cleaning is also easy . remove action from stock & yes that will unscrew from the rear . close the bolt & unscrew the end cap . it will be under some spring pressure but its not that bad . once removed you can move the bolt back . there will be a point where you can remove the cocking handle then remove bolt . It's been a wile but if I remember right thats about all there is to it . They are realy simple .

I have the same rifle and the only problem I ever had with it was with CCI Stingers, the brass is a bit longer and they would not eject properly. You will get used to the feel of the open bolt firing system. The rifle can't fire the round until the bolt hits the chamber, with the design of the "firing ridge" on the bolt it will fire rounds that other guns won't.

gevarm

i have several gevarms like yours, the only thing to watch out for when cleaning is the tapered nut that sits inside the tubular receiver, if you remove the trigger/magazine housing ,the tapered nut can be tough to re position, all and all a very simple design.

Yours, I think, is an A-3.

As mentioned, the E-1 is a take-down, stamped aluminum-alloy receiver (bolt removed from the front of the receiver), two-piece stock.

The A-3 is a fixed-barrel version, milled steel receiver (bolt removed from the rear of the receiver), one-piece stock.

Internet references seem rarer than the rifles. I've found them in references to the (French) G.I.G.N. and in Australia (government buyback value) and New Zealand (dealer site).

In print, the November 2007 issue of Small Arms Review has a four page article, by J.M. Ramos, on the "Gevarm Experimental .22 Automatic Carbine".

I'm looking at my 1968 Acme novelty catalogue . It lists the Gevarm Model E1 22 calibre carbine type take-down rifle with 19 1/2" micro-grove barrel , semi-automatic, 8 or 20 shot clips incorporating the famous Gevarm action which has no firing pin . Cat # F1138/4550 $59.95
20 shot clip for E1 rifle only Cat # F1139/475 $6.25

Thanks to Deep Shoot I got some more info on this rifle

It is an A6, which is the same as the A3, except the A3 has better sights. Turns out with the A3 and A6 there is a way to change the mainspring guide to reduce the recoil caused by the breechblock sliding backwards. Since i use high velociy LR ammo i think i will see if this tightens up my groups a bit.
From a magazine article that DS gave me it lists the trigger pull at 5.5lbs, but there is a screw to adjust the pull.. so i might fool around with this too

Thanks everyone.

Also turns out that the 20 rnd mag i have is for an E1, which my dad also had at one point. I guess it wont fit in my A6 :( So if I scrounge it up... I will put it for sale on CGN :) Id hate to have it sit here and not be used to feed ammo into one of these beasts!

The take down model is called E2 export model. It takes 8rd and 20 rd magazines. The 20rd magazines must be "fitted",as they are made a little over-sized to fit the variations in the receivers over the years. I had to makr the fine adjustment with a hammer to make my clips fit.

Thanx #1bcshooter for the takedown info! I just got my first Gevarm last week and was lookin for info on it and found your post. Very helpful!! I was wondering what the tab behind the mag well was for.

Gevarm Info

Hi Wildfoot, I sent you a PM a few minutes ago. Got to thinking I maybe should run the SIR 1970s catalog page about Gevarms on here so the other posters could check it out.
