My buddy dropped off his old gevarm last night to see if I could possibly help him (I'm not a gunsmith, I just know a bit more about firearms than he does). The bolt is stuck in the open position, it's not jammed as it still moves a bit, but when you pull the trigger, nothing happens. I've tried "assisting" with some pressure from my thumb while pulling the trigger and still no go. I'm leery of removing the trigger group with the bolt cocked cause I'm afraid I'll end up with pieces scattered all over....
Have any of you guys delt with this problem in the past, if so, how'd you fix it?

Thanks

Not many pieces to scatter... very simple bolt mechanism... just do it...

As usual in these 'I need help' threads, not enough info is given... as in which model, the take down with a two piece stock or the non take down with a one piece stock?

I'm not that smart, but I'm not that dumb either.... the safety isn't on. I should have specified, it's a take down, E1 I think is the model number.
Thanks for the help thus far

If you remove the trigger assembly with the barrel attached to the action, the bolt can go no where but up against the chamber... make sure it is empty.

You're not holding back on the bolt handle as you try to release it, are you? If you're pulling back even slightly the bolt won't release. Just let the thing slam home, you can't hurt it.

Two possible issues:

#1 The trigger or sear is worn where they contact each other. They are supposed to contact each other just enough for the trigger to press the sear down (while the bolt is locked back on it) and then the trigger slips off the sear allowing it to reset. Sounds like the trigger is not contacting the sear enough to push it down and release the bolt.

#2 The sear spring is too strong (yes, too strong). The sear kinda pivots back and forth as well as up and down and if the spring is too strong it won't allow the sear close enough to the trigger for the trigger to act on it and release the bolt.

If you would like any help just PM me. I know these little guns pretty well.

Ok, I finally got this thing into some decent light before I pulled it apart and noticed a couple cracks in the casting that the trigger group is attached to. I called buddy and we decided to take it out anyway. So, now I've got the trigger out, but unfortunately it's in two pieces. It was sooo dirty, there was so much powder fouling and crud in there, hell, there was even a couple balsam needles. But on the bright side, with the trigger removed the bolt closes ;).
As Walther ppk mentioned, I think the trigger or sear is probably worn and that's why it wouldn't release, or maybe it was stuck on a balsam needle....
But this rifle belonged to my buddies grandfather, then his uncle, and now him for the last 25 years or so, so he doesn't want to scrap it if it can be avoided. If anyone has a trigger group sitting on the shelf that they'd be willing to part with for a reasonable amount, shoot me a PM

Thank you all for your help

I believe the local gun shop has an E-1 parts rifle in the back.

I can check to see if they have one available.

I will send a PM with their contact info if they have one

John
