I was given two bricks of this ammo awhile ago. I've never heard of this French made ammo before. The cases appear to be dull nickel. The box is printed in both French & English so I'm guessing it was made for the Canadian market?

It should work just fine. Used a bunch of this as a kid. It's the long rifle case loaded with the short bullet. Probably at about 1000 fps. Not quite a soft and quiet as a short, and not as pricey as long-rifle.
CIL (Dominion) also made a .22 long, that I used.

That said, you might want to try to contact a few cartridge collectors, those boxes look like they are in pretty good shape.

Higginson's used to market this ammo many decades ago when they were known as Ammomart or possibly even earlier as Xelex explosives.
My buddies and I shot our way through several thousand rounds of it in both long and long rifle configuration.
All the cases were nickle plated. The LR stuff was very good ammo.
There was some Gevelot Centerfire ammo available for a while also.

Thanks for the replies.
So the next question I should ask, is there any collector value in this ammo? I would hate to shoot it off then find out later it was worth something more than just a plinking round.

There is more collector value in the Gevelot products that were made in Canada. Those from France are somewhat "common" but as said above, since the boxes are in great shape you should be able to get something (not much) from a rimfire ammo collector (which I'm not). Since it's not very old stuff, it's not very collectable - from late 1960 to 1971 Gevelot Canada was the importer of 22 LR and 22 Long and they were intended to be sold together with Gevarm .22 and .222 rifles. The canadian ammo plant was located in Saskatoon and produced a lot of centerfire calibers. In 1971, the plant closed and as the rimfire ammo were concerned, there was only .22 Long availlable at that time. A good part of the Gevelot Canada inventory was bought by Xelex around '72. Sad story, as it was good stuff, just like CIL / Dominion / Imperial.

Thanks for the additional info Baribal. I learn something new everyday. Sounds like I should just go ahead and shoot the rounds for fun but keep the boxes as a souvenir.

I shot some in the '70's when I was a kid, it was good stuff but kinda rare even then. I took some photos and I think I still have the boxes if anyone is interested.
