Gewehr 43 Legal in Canada?

Hey everybody,

I am asking this on behalf of a friend who is looking into getting his PAL. He, like everybody else, has a gun he really loves, and he wants to know about the legality of it.

Just wondering if the Gewehr 43 is legal in Canada, provided you pin the magazine to 5 rounds?

If it is legal, does anybody know where they can be found in Canada?

Ok, that pretty much answers the other question I did not ask, which was pricing.

Just out of curiosity, what is the link to the one in the EE, went in search, but I did not find it.

G43's sell for about 2500-3000 depending on maker and condition. The one C96 is selling in the EE is a sniper with ZF/4 scope. I bought a beautiful G43 qve 45 from him for 3,100. I love it.
 
I traded a six-digit Springfield Garand and a Syrian contract MAS49 for a G43. Yes they are available, but I feel a wartime G43 (aren't they all?) to be rather fragile, and not a good all-around shooter. Magazines, parts and service advice are all problematic. There is no way to adjust the gas pressure, without putting in a modern kit. If something made by a concentration camp slave worker lets go, you're on your own.

A Garand will be about 1/5th the price and much less anxious to shoot. An SVT is an equally good choice as a shooter, but they wreck the cases.

X2... But if your friend really wants a G43 he won't be happy with anything else. I got a P38 and although I like it I always wanted a Luger. Took me a while but when I finally got that Luger it could have shot like garbage and I still would have loved it!

Really it's about what turns your crank. I'd love a G43 but it'll be a long time before my wife lets me drop hat kind of coin on a gun!

It would depend on what was sporterized on the G43.
The overall condition of the barrel, bolt, locking lugs, firing pin assembly to name a few.
An original stock with the metal required will cost you upwards of $1000.00 if you can even find one.
I repro stock may run between 400.00 - 600.00.
An original butt plate can cost an additional $400.00.
Add the front sight hood, cleaning rod, sling and shooters kit.
Add these up and subtract the total from the ask price.;)
G/K 43's run anywhere from $2000.00 - 4,500.00 depending on year, model, manufacturer and overall condition.

Know the difference between Matching as in a Vet Bring Back, and Force-Matched as in a VOPO Post War Renumbered Job in East Germany.
Both are Matching but not worth the same money. May save you a lot of Grief and $$$.
 
I am not looking at buying it.

It is a VOPO rework with the nice bright sunburst. The stock has been sanded and carved up to make it a nice dear rifle. Everything works and functions great. The blueing and rifling is great. It is missing it's sight hood and cleaning rod but that is par of the course with a VOPO.

I guess if the guy or a new owner wants, they can put on a shooter kit but I don't think its necessary. The rifle might end up on here in a couple of months.

The shooters kit is necessary unless you want the receiver to blow out a new A-Hole on the back end and make it worthless if you shoot it! Most Vopo K43 have cleaning rods and front sights, which adds a big deduction to the price combined with the sporter stock.

Seconding the necessity of a shooter's kit if you're going to fire a G/K3. It also helps if you hand load, as you can dial down the powder charge a bit to get it cycling well for the setting that you've got it set at. A guy in the US on another board had the receiver on fail catastrophically about six months ago shooting Yugo '50s era ammo. It was probably just one misloaded round and he got really unlucky.
