Here are some pictures of my Gibbs match rifle, from the serial number I believe it was made in 1865 or 66. The gun is in good shape but has the wrong front site. Some time in life it has had a beach combination site added and the orignal is missing. Sure would like to find one for it

Since nobody has come up with any ideas about a front sight, how about a value for this gun. The bore is good and the false muzzle is the right one and is serial numbered to the gun. The rear sight is correct but not a matching serial number

Pedersoli make a replica of this rifle and I think the front sight is an accurate copy of orig. ....not that you would want to put a cheap sight on such a rifle....find out from Pedersoli Web sight what they look like and then order a similar sight from Montana Vintage Sights(or something like that).....my guess at value is $2500 if the rest is orig.....because of its Brit. Heritage, U.S. prices not driven up like some Highwalls, Ballards, Maynards, etc.

Gibbs Metford

I like Ben's pricing! The last original Gibbs Metford I heard about for sale was around $8K, and it sold quick.

Thanks for your input guys. The reason I had posted the pictures was to see if I would be lucky enough to find a British front site. On the value I had 2 offers in 7K area, not that it is for sale but was woundering what the value was considered at. Being British I don't beleive hurts the value since they were the first with the 1000 yard target rifle before the American by 10 to 15 years. Any British single shot or muzzleloader I have bought seems to in demand, in Canada or the US. But I do agree that any American single shot target rifle is easy to sale, as is any old sporting rifle. They are all getting expensive and hard to find
Again thanks for the input
