We're about to roll out our gift cards and I have a qn for everyone. The gift cards are the plastic swipe ones. When you place an order you can give us the number off the back and we run it like a credit card.

My qn is this, shipping, I was thinking of placing a flat $11ish shipping fee on each gift card order so that it can be express posted to you. I don't want to send them regular mail as I'm afraid they will get lost and express post atleast provides tracking.

I can't include shipping on the them or if I did it would be for larger amounts, say $150.

What do you think?

I don't want to offer regular post for one reason. If someone orders one, says it was lost in the mail and then someone else comes in and uses that card I really have no way of telling. I have to have a tracking method for shipping but I can't eat the shipping for smaller amounts.

$0.50 postage, but you email an activation link to the buyer that they click on to activate the card when they have it in hand.

edit: Or you have an online activation process where you enter the card's number, and it emails an activation link to the buyer's email address. That way people can't accidentally activate prematurely.

Problem solved. I'll offer the option of mailing them out, I charge for shipping, or offering an electronic one.

Btw, everyone of the customers on my website should have just gotten an email for a $5 electronic gift certificate.

Why must you tempt me! (thank you though)

I was going to jokingly ask for a prize for suggesting the idea but I guess I already got a real prize :D

Can this be used in store or is it online only (or order online and pick up in store?)
