I currently use a Frankfrod Platinum universal trimming unit for my 223 brass, and it works just fine, but now I have a bunch of 308 and 7.62x39 brass piling up.

I haven't had to change calibres on the Frankford unit yet, it was a little finicky to set it up for the 223.... is it worth it to switch to a Giraud power trimmer with the extra calibre inserts? I've been debating it in my head for a few days now. I know it's expensive but I do reload hundreds of brass from all different calibres.

How many frequently change calibres on their Franford unit? Is it a pain?

I use a Lyman case trimmer with the power adapter to attach a drill. It works very well and is esy to change. But if I had the funds o would definitely get the Giraud

If i remember correctly they wont ship up here.... give them a call and confirm.
Forester has an innovative 3-in-1 Case Mouth Cutter that combines case trimming, inside deburring and outside deburring into one easy step. Depending on what calibers you are doing it could be an option.

Giraud does ship to Canada.

To OP - make a switch and never look back, especially if trimming 100s or 1000s pieces at once!
I have separate cutter head and case holder for each caliber ($75 per cal), it makes change-over very easy and repeatable.

What Stranger said.
Giraud does ship to Canada. I got a quote for shipping last year. It was $95. I was debating between Dillon and Giraud. Since bulk 223's is readily available at a better price, I kinda decided to buy bulk.

My mistake - they won't ship giraud cartridge case annealer.

What did you decide OP - new toy?? :)

OP another option is the Hornady Cam Lock Trimmer with a Power Adapter. It comes with pilots for all calibers. Although it doesn't chamfer, I just chuck up the inside/outside chamfer bits in my cordless drill and go to town.

Lol well I havent been talked out of the Giraud yet. The Frankford is a good machine... I get paid at midnight tonight so if my OT went on and is what I was hoping..... I will likely be contacting Giraud!

The handy thing with the Giraud is you can get your gunsmith to make custom case holders using the same reamer as your rifle chamber. Very useful if you are shooting anything fancy or obscure.

Also, replace the die rings with a clamping type like Redding or Forster, makes setup a lot quicker. Not that it is slow to begin with.

Giraud will ship here I order one for my dad for xmas the unit and 3 calibers came to 700 US if I recall great customer service

I have a Giraud Powered Case trimmer and it's worth every penny imo. Don't know if the Frankford unit trims, chamfers, and deburs at once but after getting the Giraud trimmer I said I should have got it sooner. Its pricey but trimming being so tedious and time consuming its worth it. I had a Wilson stainless trimmer with micrometer adjustment and it was accurate but very slow, not to mention you had to chamfer and debur after trimming.

Doug Giraud sent me an email saying the prices have gone up.... $495 for the unit, $38 for additional case holders and $49 for additional cutter heads with shipping at $87, all in USD. So for 223 rem, 7.62x39 and 308 win its $756 US shipped.

I'm going to sleep on it. I want it so bad though lol I'll search my safes and reloading benches for items to sell!

I bought a LEE cutter with the threads for any power centrer, just need to install the holder on a 1/4 hex driver.

A Giraud trimmer will be the last case trimmer that you buy, and your kids and grandkids will never have to buy one unless you are still using yours! It’s beautifully made and incredibly consistent! I buy not only case holders, but blade assemblies when I add a caliber - saves adjusting the cutting blade every time. One blade does multiple calibers that use the same neck diameter - ie. 308, 300 Win Mag, etc.

I also. Load for the .50 BMG and there’s a case insert and cutting head for the big .50 as well - no need to buy a dedicated new trimmer.
