Yes it's the type I have to take the gun apart. It's the keeping the wood to metal fit on the scalloped reciever stock head I'm worried about. The wood is in great shape its just the oil finish is worn
 
Birchwood Casey Tru-oil will not stick to the insert, but off course you can take care tof get as little as possible on it. Taping it off would most likely leave a bit odd an edge. Once you get started you will see it is not difficult at all. As for the scalloped stock, refrain from sanding away any of the edges. Post some pictures as you go.
 
I only have a blackberry so I haven't figured out how to post pics yet. Photo bucket and me don't mix lol. I'm busy as hell right now but I would like to get it done before turkey season.
