Hey all a while back (early December) there was a lot of talk around glades armory replacement bolt handles. I never really saw anyone follow up with if they got them, how they liked them, how well they were working etc. I picked up one of these bolt handles as well as a spiral fluted bolt body and had them both installed this past by a smith. Please no comments on you probably didn't need a smith to install them - for me I tried to get the bolt out of the back of savage body I even had a buddy stand on the thing while I reefed on it and we were both unable to get that bolt undone, so yeah I needed the smith to do it. Anyways on to the important part I got the beauty back today and I freakin love the way it looks and the bolt feels just like it did before in terms of function so no hickups there and needless to say I am very happy with the bolt makeover anyways here are some pics so you can share in the glory and awesomeness:

1 thing I did forget to mention is I do notice now the bolt handle is a little longer than the factory savage and now I have little bit more leverage and so cycling the action is a little bit easier, not a hole lot but enough to notice a difference.

Man, you should have given me a shout, I'm in your neck of the woods and I did my bolt body, but yeah, you're right, it was a total pain in the @$$.

Looks good. I have a Glades Armory bolt handle on my Savage in .338 LM. It's a nice addition. I couldn't believe how tight the retention bolt was, and no sign of any thread locker. I began to wonder if Savage started using a left hand thread. Lol

Donut, when I can another Savage and the same upgrades for the bolt handle I will definately give you a shout, in the mean time though would I be able to bribe you to show me where you're shooting in that last picture in the field? I promise to not leave a trace I was there and clean up after myself :) Please :)

Actually, I have no idea how to get there, and I'm not kdding, lol!

I've been there a handful of times and it's like a friggin' maze in there and I have no idea how anybody could have any sense of direction in there. We could try to find it ourselves sometime, but we should leave a trail of breadcrumbs just in case.

Shame they don't have a option to keep it black in colour. I would buy one if the black finish was able to be reapplied

Keep which in black, the bolt body or handle? Either way, long time down the road maybe another two years or so I will be looking at cerakoting. Money is kinda tight right now lol, shooting for precision doesn't help either lol.

How was head spacing after installation?

Not sure, I had a smith get all of my stuff put together as head spacing was another concern and another reason have a smith put it together. I don't have the tools nor the knowledge to measure headspace so I left that to the professional. I never got a chance to talk to him much about it though, I mostly bugged him about how feasable it would be to turn my rifle into something that shot SAUM or WSM semi accurate.

On that note however, for the guys that do this mod themselves how did you find headspace after? My assumption would be that since you are not changing the bolt head or the barrel, you are not touching anything in the chamber therefore it should in theory be exactly the same.

****DISCLAIMER: I'm no gunsmith, you should have any issues with firearms checked by a qualified professional instead of taking the word of a keyboard commando. I.E. ME****

I have no clue, I’m with Willybuch, I figured it was just a sleeve, so headspacing wouldn’t be an issue. I did measure the length of the sleeve and it was the same as the factory one. The outside diameter was slightly larger which took up some of the play when working the bolt, and that was about it. I’ve since had the rifle out a few times, and no issues, no exploding chambers, or anything like that, so…..so far so good?
