Hi looking for a scope for my .204. I am considering the following and would appreciate any feedback that you may have.

1) Mueller Eradicator 8.5 - 25 x44

2) Vortex Viper 6.5 - 20 x 44 pa

3) Scorpian Hi Grade Venom 6 - 24 x50

4) Bushnell Elite 6 - 24 x 50

Thanks in advance for your help. Please feel free to give recomendations for something that not on my list.

cheers

I have a couple Elites, and a couple of Vipers. I would take the Viper. Scorpions don't get great reviews so I'd probably stay away from them. I used to have a Mueller Tactical, then one day the turret fell off.. so I don't have a particularly good opinion of Muellers.

A Nikon Buckmaster 6-18x40 should also be in your price range.

For a couple hundred more you can get into a Sightron SII Big Sky.

I had a Leopuld VX-II in 6-18x40 on my .204 and was very happy with it. It was clear all the way up to 18x. Sure some may have more magnification, but do they retain clarity all throughout their magnification range??

Keep an eye out for used optics on the EE. Sometimes they ask for prices above MSRP (for a used scope) but there are also some bargains to be had.

Never cheap out on optics.

A cheap Stevens 200 can be rebarreled, bedded and given a trigger job all with basic hand tools, but you can't do nothing to upgrade a cheap scope.

I don't have too many issues with lesser expensive scopes on varmint rifle only because we are mostly using them in the best light of the day weather it be at the range or out in the gopher patch. Nikon Buckmasters seem to be good value for the money. The 5-15 Bushnell Legend is a decent scope for the money, Bushnell Trophy similar price point. Hawke has some new varmint models that I have recently purchased 6-24's for right around 200.00. FS

I did quite a bit of research between Bushnell and Vortex and decided on Vortex. I have the Viper 6x20x50 PA and am happy. For the money, you may also want to check LeBaron for a 4.5x14x42 Burris Fullfield 2-their BDC reticle is much finer than the Vortex Viper (not sure about the HS reticle though).
