A friend has given me a project of sorts, it's an old Globe 308 the barrel is stamped made in Bavaria, its problem is it won't keep ammunition in the magazine. Now I know BUBBA got ahold of this thing sometime in it's life and played with things, like the follower and spring. I found another magazine spring hoping that was the only problem and it fixed the hanging up part of the problem but the cartridges now don't even try to stay in they just fall right back out so I assume the follower is not the correct one. Does anybody have any idea where a person might find the proper plate.
Thanks for any and all help.

This is the only way I can get pics here. If you look in pic 4 the blury one the round sits on the follower just fine but will not stay down in the magazine, which makes it a really nice single shot.

Sez on the barrel, Globe Model 888. Made in Austria it sez too; a model # such as 888 makes me think it was made for the Asian market

My first thought fwiw was some sort of Mauser, and the bolt makes me think Springfield. The scope bases are mounted on/in some grooves on top of the receiver.... and that's all I got

Good luck on your project!

Looks to have been based on a 1893 or 1895 Mauser.
The feed rails on Mauser receivers were machined for a specific cartridge. What caliber is it? Have a look at them, have they been altered? If they have been altered for a different round, that could be the problem. Another possibility is that the magazine follower is not correct. It looks to be sitting a bit high in one photo. Is it machined steel, or is it a stamping?

I had one exactly like that and it was a mauser and it functioned perfectly and was quite accurate. By the looks of the follower the ridge in the middle needs to be closer to the edge of the feed rail on the right side. Try glueing a piece of plastic to the follower to get the cartridge to sandwich between the edge of the reciever and the follower. Hey just thought of this is the mag well still in there? If it isn't the follower will just float around and not function properly at all.

Look to see if the bottom of the action has been altered... perhaps the same bubba who altered the bolt handle with the extractor in place started to alter the feeding for a magnum cartridge. If the rails have been opened up, it will never feed .308 again.

Perhaps the friend who has given you this project knows more about the history.

Well, the receiver is from a 93-95 Mauser. As mentioned, if the rails haven't been modified, it should feed the 308Win just fine.

The followers on Mauser military rifles usually do stick up pretty high. When the military had them, they had a square butt on the follower to jam the bolt when the mag was empty. Usually when they were sporterized this was ground to a ramp so the bolt could be closed on an empty mag.

As far as using it as a single shot, the extractor on that bolt was never designed to snap over the end of a cartridge case. It was designed to accept a cartridge base as it slid underneath the claw to rest squarely against the bolt face.

I've seen dozens of broken extractors where the inexperienced operator insists there is something wrong and insists on jamming the bolt ahead anyway.

As mentioned before, if the guide rails haven't been buggered, a different follower will likely fix the problem.

Rebuilding milsurps into hunting rifles is what Globe Co. did. Supposedly, they imported rifles too. There was the exact same question about the exact same rifle posted on Gun and Game back in 2008. Lots of 'em on-line. One sold in 2009 for $235.
I wouldn't spend any money on it, but the mag rails are worn out.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. turns out it has the wrong follower in it. I applied some apoxy to the follower and filed it down to see if this would do the trick, after I had found a spring that came closer to fitting, and voila worked like a charm now just have to find the proper follower. I'm not sure what the cause of the heat marks on the extracter is all about it wiped right off with a couple wipes with fine steel wool, the bolt handle has had some grinding done on the top to clear the scope. Pretty much got a handle on it now once again Thanks
