I have a Williams FP336 for my Marlin 336, this rifle is about 29 years old and has the ramp front sight as you can imagine, 20 " barrel, pretty basic 336, I am getting a globe front sight for it, does the rear sight have enough elevation to use the globe, and what globe front sight would be best to get(shortest), I don't really expect to use this combination much past 200 yards if that.

The shortest I could find when I put one on the wife's 357 Marlin was the Lyman 17A with a hieght of .404. WSS in Calgary have them in stock ( can't remember for sure but I think it was about $43).

I did have to make a new ramp that set the sight right down on the barrel to get the gun to shoot high enough for her to shoot sillywet without cranking the rear sight to the top but she only shoots 158gr cast boolits at about 1300fps. so the trajectory is a lot worse the yours would be asuming yours is a 30-30.

I built the new ramp out of a small piece of aluminum. You can build a new ramp in a couple hrs. with only a small three corner file, a rasp with a close radius to the barrel dia. and a small drill bit. A drill press with the proper size mill cutters will cut aliminum easily as well.
One hint I would make if you do make a new ramp is to cut the dovetail so that the base of the sight protrudes about .005 into the barrel chanell. Also cut the dovetail so that the sight can be slid back and forth in the slot with just firm finger pressure. This allows for easy sight adjustment with only a screwdriver. When the screws are tight the ramp will pinch the sight down onto the barrel holding it in place, to adjust sight just loosen screws and slide to where you want it and retighten.

Hey thanks I just ordered one of those for my 1894, it should work just fine as is as its the cowboy version, no front ramp - getting the windage on to agree with the rear sight at zero could take quite a bit of time though, without a ramp a front sight pusher is going to be useless.
