Problem: I download my .40 ammo for my Glock 22. If I put 10 rounds in the magazine and 1 in the pipe, the first round won't cycle because of the tension the 10 rounds in the mag are under and not enough force from the downloaded rounds to cycle the action properly. After the first round everything is fine. My solution has been to put 9 rounds in the mag and 1 in the pipe, everything works fine. However, since I shoot IPSC I am at a bit of a disadvantage since I have one less round in every mag.

Question: Will a spring designed for a 15 round magazine work in a magazine designed for 10 rounds? My thought is if that would work then the spring would be under less tension and therefore I could put 10 rounds in the mag, 1 in the pipe, and things would cycle fine.

Anyone know if that will work or not?

My wife and I shoot g22's in IPSC and have (like many others) encountered the very same problem. You can cut 1 1/2 coils off the 10rd mag spring, that will help. Or you can buy a pile of pinned 15rd mags, this solves the problem.

Just to be extra sure that they do not fit, I just took apart a couple of my mags. The sping from my 17/10 rd magazine is much wider and will not fit into the body of a factory 10rd magazine.

Leave your mags loaded for a while. This tends to settle them in a bit and make them a bit easier to work with.

I hate glock mags for this reason. Every 10 rd glock mag seems to be problematic. I have yet to find a 10 rd glock mag that loads a full 10 rds easily with no effort.

I have springs from both kicking around in my toolbox. The 15rd. springs are wider (we are talking .40S&W here, whats all the talk about the 17rd springs??) and won't fit into the 10rd. single stack mags. See if you can find some 15/10 round mags, they easily accept 10 rounds and will probably run your downloaded .40 nicely. The standard capacity mags don't seem to have any of the issues the 10rds have.

That being said, leaving them loaded for several weeks often loosens them up enough to run better than they were, try that out before you go and start cutting loops off your springs!

i use 8 10/17 rd for IPSC because of the hard to load mags!

i got the other 10rd mags for range work and practice...

Does anyone happen to know if there are any stores selling 15/10 mags? Yes, I am talking about .40 S&W, my bad for saying 17/10 instead of 15/10.
