I posted this on another forum as part of a thread they have going, thought some of the members here might find this interesting:

Pistol: Glock 17 Gen 3
Caliber: 9mm
Ammunition: 600rds 124g S&B, 300rnds 115g AE, 10rds 147g Golden Saber, 10rds 1968 manufacture CND MK1, 15rds 147g reloads, 800rds 124g Wolf re-manufactured, 300rds 115g Tula
Dates of testing: 10/19/2013 – 12/29/2013
Total rounds fired: 2,035

Stoppages: 4*
Malfunctions: 0
Breakages: 0

*All stoppages were failures of the slide to lock back on an empty mag due to improper grip. Two were from firing SHO, one from shooting from an improvised position and the other while trying to go faster than I'm capable of.

Pistol was cleaned and lubed with G96 Gun Treatment before the test. I did wipe powder residue from the lens of TLR-1 a couple times, but this was the only cleaning I did of the pistol throughout the test. No extra lube was added throughout the test.

She was a bit dirty...

I was impressed to see the firing pin assembly, extractor plunger and extractor, were not really that dirty...

So true Clob, they are great little guns. I think I might be approaching 4k with no cleaning in mine. Two stoppages (I suspect it was my father in laws limp wrist technique that caused them).

I did give it a squirt of lube after every 600-800 rounds or so.

Perhaps its due for a cleaning at this point!

Interesting, I'd like to see photos of the internals, it must be horribly filthy.

As info, I don't advocate treating a pistol like this, but it does give one some confidence in the pistols reliability. I usually clean and lube my guns after every range session, but I was interested in this test on another forum so I thought I'd find out how my G17 performed.

I've put 10,000 rounds through my G17 without cleaning. All I did was spray it now and then with remington oil. Only cleaned it when it started to spray carbon lube in my face

People say their gun will do this, or that it's easy or that they've already passed that mark, and then they add, "I always put some oil on every few hundred rounds". That's not how it works. The test is as Clob did it, 2000 no cleaning, no luring, no taking it apart to wipe things down, 2000 rounds minimum, reporting all stoppages, malfunctions and breakages. Very few people successfully perform this test, and very few pistols will do it flawlessly. If you think yours will, then do it, keep a log book and report back.

Good old CGN...one useful thread a week, and somebody ####s on it for no reason while adding zero information.

It was a question I wasnt ####ting on anything, I was trying to figure what he was trying to do with the test. So before you chastise me please show me how your comment was "useful" by adding information? At least mine was a question to the op yours is #####ing and complaining.

It's just a data point. Pistol functioned perfectly (despite the operator), with no cleaning and no added lube through 2000 rounds.

How many rounds do you put through your pistols before you clean them?

Depends I put 8000 through my beretta and only had few ammo related issues but usually its 2500 or so between cleaning
