glock 17 gen 3 or 4??

I think they still use the tenifer hardening process don't they? I thought only the parkerized finish had changed slightly.

After doing some digging, I believe you are correct. It looks like Glock still uses "ferritic nitro-carburizing" (tennifer) My previous post is incorrect.

The change is to the finish. Which I still prefer the Gen3 over the Gen4.

The finish on my Glock 17 Gen 4 has been much more durable than my Gen 3 was. I absolutely adore my Gen 4. It's such an awesome pistol, I'm going to shoot this thing till my fingers fall off.

You must have gotten a good one. I have Glocks of multiple gen's and the 4th is by far the easiest to mar.

New flat finish is sadly not as durable, apparently there are some gen3's with flat finish and gen4's with 'old' shiny black finish - those are what people are used to when they think of Glock tennifer finish. new flat/gray-ish finish is similar to finish on older gen2 models.
