Hey guy I was wanting to pick up a new Glock 17 but was stuck on which Generation to get any help would be greatly appreciated. Have heard both have some pros and cons
Thanks Mike

Have both. Both work perfect but I personally prefer the GEN3 RTF2 as I like a firm grip.

The adjustable grip is ok if you are out of the "normal" hand size range that works for 80% of the population.

As long as as you are right handed all the mods I recommend are ext slide and mag release. (for gen3)

Hold both though as YMMV.

I like the look of the Gen4's a lot more... I also appreciate the fact that "No Backstrap" is the same size as the SF frame; awesome news for the G20/21.

Definitely Gen4 at this point (I've paid for 2 - transfer hasn't initiated yet though :()

Dream "Canadian" pistol is currently a G20Gen4 ;)

Gen4, mine (Model 17) has had no problems, 1250rds and counting. Mine came with the 02 recoil spring (updated one). Texture is good, no need for grip tape or any of that. DOOOO IIIITTT!

Thanks for the advise guys I too love the feel of the Gen 4 in my hand but my only consern was the recoil spring and someone was telling me the casings fly into your face.

Gen2 G22 I had was throwing the brass everywhere, but mostly up like an SKS. Both my gen4 Glocks 22 and 23 work great and I really dig those guns. I've also had a several gen3's - couple 17's, 22's and 29SF. My main complaint was the grip texture; it was too rough on front and too smooth on the sides. Gen4 grip size feels a LOT better in my hands and texture is more effective but doesn't feel as rough. I also liked the feel of gen2 a lot- no finger groves.

A buddy of mine has a Gen 4 that does that. We shot about 3 boxes and had one stovepipe, and 3 FTFs. I told my buddy he needs to replace the spring but he seems insistent that it's poor firearms manipulation...

Another friend was shooting it and a hot brass flew at her face and actually slid in between her glasses. Luckily it only lightly singed her eyebrow. I was not happy to see that.

That is what i dont want is hot brass in the eye. I have a Gen2 Glock 22 and they fly every where it is like a hunt just to find the spent brass to be reloaded. lol. I bought a 9mm conversion barrel for it but was really hoping to buy a Gen4 to add to the collection but left wondering if its going to cause a headache.

I have a Glock 17 Gen 4 with the 02 spring and it tosses cases off to the right side. I have had some FTF's but only when I am shooting it I thought it was the gun but I had an experienced Glock shooter try and had no issues. I believe I "limp wrist" it sometimes.

I would like a Gen 4...but not until they work out the bugs.

I would give it another 6 months. I don't want to go through another spring change, then an ejector change, then an extractor change, as they try to figure out what they ####ed up.

Some run fine. Some don't. Most people who tell you "mine runs fine" haven't shot their enough to know. They get a few hundred rounds through it and declare it flawless.

In many cases, the problems show up around 4000 rounds, by which point the gun has loosened up a bit. These problems have not consistently been fixed by changing the RSA.

I am looking forward to a Gen 4. When they've got them figured out. Not yet.

Gen 4's will be out for another few decades. Get a Gen 3 while you can still buy them brand new. Everyone is waiting for the Gen 4 21?...#### THAT,,I hope I have enough cash to score a brand new Gen 3 21 while there still around.

If you like OD green, gen 4 don't offer any.

Interesting....and noted.

G34 Gen 3 north of 10000 and flawless.........nuff said d:h:

I take it you had one, so what are the exact issues with the Gen 4?

All info is good info. Cheers :D
