What are the typical modifications for Glock 17's? I will be using it in Production so I know I am limited in what I can do... Is the extended mag and slide release ok for production? What about the 3.5 disconnector? I know that the trigger pull has to be above 5 - pretty sure the 3.5 will keep it above this mark.

Thanks in advance.

The following are production legal:

  • Grip Tape (as long as it doesn't change the profile of the gun)
  • Trigger job (including the Glock 3.5 lb connector)
  • Extended magazine release (Glock)
  • Extended slide stop (Glock)
  • Aftermarket sights (of the same type provided by the OFM)

In my case, I have done all of the above except for the extended slide stop. The trigger job will give you a smooth, crisp trigger pull right on 5 lbs. The mag release is pretty much mandatory. I use Heine sights (1,000,000x better than the factory sights).

Now, having said all of that, the following items/mods are not allowed:
  • Re-finishing (eg. Nickel or Chrome)
  • Fibre-optic sights
  • Aftermarket trigger parts
  • Aftermarket barrels
  • Aftermarket guide rods
  • Hogue grips
  • Magazine wells
  • Grip plugs

Hope that helps.

I have a 3.5 lb connector on my G17 and the trigger breaks right at 5.5 lbs with no other trigger work. I also have the extended mag release, extended slide stop, grip tape, and Heine sights. bc_shooter and I must have shopped at the same store.

Be VERY careful about your mods for Production division.

If you read the rules carefully, you will note that you may have to prove that the extended mag release and slide stop were available for that "specific model" as an option from the manufacturer. Glock only has options for the sights. Just because it fits does not mean it was a manufacturers' option. And those parts were only available on the 34 and 35 which are not production legal in Canada. The extended mag release is actually the large frame mag release.

Depends on the person inspecting whether or not they catch it.

As for the trigger, I could never get the 3.5 lb disconnect to make a 5lb pull. It always broke for me at around 4.5 lbs. I use the stock parts with VERY little polishing and break at just over 5lbs 1 oz. After several thousand rounds, it drops below 5lbs.

Doesn't matter for small matches so much, but you don't want to travel to a Provincials or Nats and get bumped into another category. You play the game, you take your chances.

Spend more time shooting, and less time fitting, and you will be better for it.

There's nothing to "catch" regarding extended mag catch and slide stop. Vince Pinto has posted often on this.. both are legal mods for the Glock in Production. Hopefully, Sean or Bud can post something on the IPSC Canada site and settle this once and for all.

Hey reddot...nothing to settle, you are correct...

These were the mods of choice at the Worlds...all G17's and G22's with the extended Mag catch (and slide stop) were approved and this has been ruled on several times by Vince. Bud checked on this a long time ago as well...

I agree with "40cal" My Glock 19 w/ the 3.5 connector & new trigger spring
breaks at 4.5 lbs. too.

Though, if I shoot it in IPSC, I'm standard, cause I also have a magwell, Harrts recoil mercury guide rod. Also, the ext. mag. release & ext. slide release.

Newbrunny, practise alot. mag changes without a magwell is not so easy.

Quigley, you should have driven w/ a hangover to the Grange to shoot the level 2. it was a good match.

I was seriously thinking about it...glad you had a good time. Are you shooting the Level 2 at the RA in Feb?

Thanks for the update Quiqley.

I had heard rumours of them (extended stop and release) being accepted in different places. The way it is written, the rules do not allow the extended parts, but if they let them go at the Worlds, then that does leave a precidence.

I still think Tritium is right about you though. :D

Speaking of the angry little lepricon...anyone hear from him lately

I hear he is back on the bottom of the totem pole at work. Has to work his way back up so to speak.

And when you're that tall, up is a long way.

I'm sure he will chime in soon. This has got to be bugging him.
