Yesterday I tried out my new Glock 19 to compare with my HK P2000
The pistol range at Spruce Grove was shut down so I had to shoot at the rifle range at a range of about 20 yards or a bit more. I used index cards as targets.
My current 100% hits index card range is 10yards only, at 15y I land a few outside the card so 20 yards was a challenge.
Glock 19: very soft recoil, may be due to the grip angle. The front sight almost fills up the rear notch and my almost middle age eyes just doesn't pick up those tiny slivers of light as well any more. The front sight also is very wide compared to the P2000 making it hard to center the target. My first 20 rounds only landed 2 on to the target. Afterwards I landed about 50% of 20 rounds fired onto the index card. Somewhat disappointing but this was my first time with the gun so I can't judge it until I practice more with it.
HK P2000: recoil was may be a slight bit more than the Glock but very manageable. I am used the the 5.5lb LEM trigger and average 50-75 dry fires nightly with a snap cap with this gun. At 20 yards I landed between 66% -75% of 30 rounds fired onto the index card. (dry firing really works!!!). I was surprised because earlier this spring I could not shoot this well. I've been practicing with Ayoob's crush grip and wedge hold and it has improved my shooting.
The HK's sights has a skinnier front sight and more bars of light on either side making it easier for me to align the sights. 10 years ago I hated this vs. the snugger fit of front sight in the notch but I'm aging I guess. Trigger reset of the LEM is longer than the Glock but in rapid fire doesn't seem that noticeable. The grip angle of the HK is similar to the 'Beretta, bhp, P99) angle that I have used since my early days of shooting. This angle aligns the gun more naturally for me vs. the Glock.
I going to find some better sights for my Glock and practice more with it. I have pinned 10/15 and 10/33 mags for it so it's a keeper!!! For my go to gun and if I ever go to the US and get CCW I'll turn to my HK P2000!!!!
