So while in the process of deciding between an HK or Q5 , I stumbled across a good deal on a new Glock 22.

And as I don’t want to start shooting .40 again I was thinking Maybe just to buy a 9 barrel.

So should I just buy a 9 barrel? Will the .40 mags be as reliable?
Or should I just trade for a 17?

If I go with a 9 barrel , will there be any other diff between the 22 and the 17?

Thanks

I had the the 40 and loved it , I heard the mags will fit , but to be on the safe side get 9mm mags, I even heard about the extractor being replaced to have an absolute flawless operation, mind you I never replaced my extractor and never had a problem. The 22 and the 17 are the same gun just chambered in different caliber. Your 17 would be your dedicated 9mm where as your 22 isn’t, but you best of both worlds. It all comes down to comfort and price point.

My 2 cents

Thanks
It seems like a bit of messing around, selling barrels and mags, then rebuying.
Maybe it’s better to do a straight up trade.

The Storm Lake 40 to 9 conversion require 9mm Glock mags, but the Magpul are decent and cheap at least.
Not sure if Lone Wolf is the same deal.

Have been using a KKM .40-9mm conversion barrel for about 15 years in my various Glock 22's with zero issues. Have not changed extractors or ejectors. You need a .40-9 conversion barrel, a regular 9mm barrel will not work in the Glock 22.

Just need 9mm mags and either Glock or Magpul work fine. Just make sure you get a .40-9 conversion barrel from a quality maker. I have had excellent service with the KKM barrels, but they are hard to find.

Had a g22 gen 3 with a lone wolf 9mm conversion and a couple of mags....worked without issue...kinda wish I’d kept it actually....

Well seeing as I bought this on a whim lol and have zero interest in .40 , plus I don’t want to spend any more money on barrels, mags ,etc.
I may as well try and trade it for a G17.

It should be an even trade ,shouldn’t it?

I have a G22 with a Lone Wolf 9mm barrel. I use genuine G17 mags. The combination is 100% reliable. No changing extractor, ejector or main recoil spring. 9mm will fit the G22 mags but I’ve not actually shot them that way. I would anticipate some reliability issues due to the steeper 9mm feed angle from the .40 mag. Others with real experience should chime in.

OP, it likely won’t be an even trade. The G17 is more popular than the G22, mainly due to the caliber itself, like you said. A 9mm barrel is around $260. Most people who have a G17 on the EE are not looking for a .40.

I can’t Believe you ended up with a G22 when you were looking for an HK or a Walther...How the heck did that happen?

And I use .40 mags in my G22 w/9mm conversion barrel in a Roni kit for PCC matches with no reliability issues, bonus is for Outlaw matches, I get an extra 2 rounds in each mag.

I got the GLOCK for a deal I couldn’t refuse, from a local gun store.
I’m still getting a HK or Walter.
I almost got the Walter , when I stumbled on the HK SFP-9 SF, it has a better trigger than the VP9.

So I’ll either straight up trade for a 17 or try to trade towards an HK SFP- 9 SF
I do t want a .40 and don’t really want to spend any money on the conversion.

Thanks , that’s what I figured after looking at the EE.
I’ll probably see if I can trade towards an HK.
The price I paid was not bad and I just couldn’t turn it down.
It won’t be the first time I bought a gun on a whim .. lol

LOL. There’s a reason why you paid a good price for a G22 and your current dilemma is exactly why. I’ve given up looking for the same deal myself and just use my G22 as a 9mm.

And...this won’t be the last gun you buy on a whim either!

i was contemplating getting a police tradein g22 or g23 here in the states.
what's the diff. btw. these 2 models?
if i get a gen 3 the aftermarket parts are really cheap to convert to 9mm.

The G22 is a full size, like the G17. The G23 is the compact, like the G19.

Regular G17 mags ( factory or aftermarket) will fit the G17, 22, 19, 23. When I shoot my G19 in IDPA, I start with a G19 mag but my reloads are G17 mags. Helps with positive seating and also gives you a pinky extension.

thanks for the info.police tradeins in the states are btw 270 and 320 USD but in .40 s&w

you can get gen 3 glock parts here pretty cheap.

even polymer 80 can be had but if you buy a complete kit it's not worth it.
