Hi, I just ordered a Glock 22 Gen4 and have a question about magazines for it. Am I correct in assuming that as a right handed shooter I can buy older generation magazines for it? If my research is correct, the difference in generations only affects lefties with having to switch the mag release, and the gen4's having 2 slots in the mag to accommodate this. Am I correct?
Thanks for any info,
Glen

I'm not sure I follow this...why exactly can't a southpaw like myself use older gen mags in a gen4? If they work for a right handed person, why won't they work for a lefty? Would I not be able to just do what I've always done and use my trigger finger to engage the mag release??

Here's why I asked in the first place and why you can't use earlier mags in gen4 - the gen4 pistol is designed so that you can take the mag release button and switch it to the right side of the grip so that southpaws can eject the mag with their left thumb. The gen4 magazines therefore had to have a slot cut into the right side of the magazine so the retainer fits into it from the right side. So the newer generation mags have two slots, so the mag retainer/ejector button works from either side.
The older generation mags only have a slot cut into one side of them (onleft if looking from rear) to accommodate mag releases on the left side of the pistol, therefore only really workable by right handed shooters.
Clear as mud? Hope this explains it for you.
Regards,
Glen
