I was looking at a 3rd gereration Glock 17 (9mm) and noted that it had the same three pin lower as the Glock 22's (.40 cal).
Is this standard on all 3 and 3.5 generations? Any idea if this is due to ease/cost of manufacturing that the same lower works on both 9mm and .40 or was there a concern regarding people using .40 slides on 9mm lowers and the resulting possible damage and failure of the lowers.
Reason for questions is that I want to build a .22cal Glock for my son to shoot and looking at what would be the best Glock to buy as donor for the lower. If I get a .40, I can shoot .22, 9mm and .40 with the appropriate slide. If I get an older two pin Model 17, it is not recommnded to mate with and shoot .40
Also if anyone has an Advantage Arms conversion kit they are willing to part with, I am interested.
