Glock 34 for IDPA / Alberta Tactical Handgun League ? G35 maybe?

Who's using the Glock 34? Not much of a pistelero but definately trying to improve.

How goes the G34 the action shooting? What kit you be using? Also how about the G35 with a 9mm conversion barrel?

Shoot well with the G17 but there is definately room for improvement. Maybe a new handgun to tweak the brain :D

Glock 34 is perfect for IDPA, used one for the 2009 IDPA season In Ontario. All I did was install a set of Heinie sights, fantastic gun. Used CompTac holster and mag pouches. Ask Wicked_Police, he bought it from me and now shoots it.

One of the best choices for IDPA. I shoot a Glock 35 in 40 cal. and it is one of the easiest handguns to shoot well, if it fits your hand, and parts are cheap!
Bought a conversion barrel so I could shoot cheaper 9mm in it, but the ruling from IDPA HQ states if the model is not made in a 9mm then no conversion barrel can be used. The Glock 35 is only a 40 cal! If you buy a SIG 226 that model comes in both 9mm and 40 cal so a conversion barrel is ok. Makes no sense in this time of expensive and sometimes hard to find ammo! But most club matches will allow it, but not a Provincials or a State championship, they check your gun and equipment before you start.
I would highly recommend the Glock 34 for IDPA.
Just a side note, it can only be shot in Standard Division in IPSC as well, but in 9mm you will be shooting minor for scoring. Having said all this, if you want to shoot both sports, you now have an excuse to buy a Glock 34 and a 35!!
And one of our commerical sponsers on this site is running a Glock armours course in the new year as well. You can learn all about the care and feeding of your two new Glocks! Enjoy!

Glock Conversion Barrels
IDPA HQ has ruled that Glock conversion barrels are not allowed in IDPA in any division. Glocks models are caliber specific so replacing the factory barrel with a conversion barrel, even if factory made would not be allowed. Glock 17's must remain 9MM, Glock 31 .357 etc.

While you may be allowed to shoot at club matches with it you cannot use the Glock with a conversion barrel to shoot the Classifier. An explanation of the rule and the background to it maybe found on the idpacanada.com website. The reason the Sig 226 in 9MM is allowed to be used with a .40cal conversion barrel is due to the fact the Sig 226 comes in both calibers. The Glock 35 only comes in .40cal from the factory. Glocks models are caliber specific hence the ruling.

I shoot a glock 35 in ESP and either a G17 or G22 (depending on the ammo I have laying around) in SSP. The only reason the 35 is in ESP is that I have done some work to it. You can't go wrong with either in IDPA, but if you ever plan on shooting IPSC, go with the 35 for reasons already mentioned. Personally I prefer shooting .40 during matches, especially during those stages with read-reactive targets and poppers as I get a more reassuring ding when I hit them and they tend to fall a little quicker, as well the slightly larger holes in the paper targets are easier to see. If ammo costs are your only concern you could still get a conversion barrel and use it for you own practice sessions and switch back to .40 for the matches, or you could go the route I have taken and just buy more Glocks;).

If you are handloading, there isn't significant cost savings of .40 v. 9mm if you compare a lighter 125k power floor load, and as stated the .40 offers some advantages with steel and hole size. I'd go with a G35 of the two.
