Glock 34 vs. Glock 17L - help me decide please ...

I'm not sure about that...

The G17L, although not exactly hen's teeth, can be fairly hard to obtain which makes it desirable. With that said the G34 has a large following and is a Glock favourite amongst many shooters.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other.

Yes, that is something I thought of is the scarcity of the 17L ... G34's are everywhere.

I have shot the 34 and really like it, but haven't shot the L ... all I can think tho is that extra .7" of barrel could make a significant difference ... certainly the diff between the 17 and the 34 is (for me anyways) ... so the extra on the L might be the icing on the cake.

- Readily available.
- Small hands = Gen4.
EDIT* - Not as ugly as the G17L, lol.

They're virtually the same, pick your poison.

With the Gen4/Gen3 triggers...are you saying you can tell the difference between the trigger bars? Is that little ol' bump on the Gen4 bothering you? lol.

Honestly don't know mechanically what the diff was but the gen 3 just seems smoother ... my gun was new tho, his is not, maybe just worn in better ...

Why not get both? Or throw a G17 in too? If I could only have one, then the G34 would be the one for me.

Nice trio you have there. So ... does that extra .7" of barrel and sight radius really make a lot of difference?

I didn't find it made that much difference. What made a bigger difference for me was the quality of the sights. Have never really liked the stock Glock sights. For accuracy I like them big, black and blocky. For IPSC and speed steel, I like a fibre optic front sight and plain black rear sights. For versatility, I like the Trijicon 3 dot night sights.

I put the Burris Fastfire 2 on the 17L just for fun, but it didn't really improve my 25m groups that much. The 17 has aftermarket Trijicon sights on it that just happen to have the perfect elevation for a combat hold at 10m with 124gr factory ammo. I put some adjustable sights on the G34 so I could adjust the elevation to match my 147gr 132pf reloads.

In the end ...

So in the end I did buy one from Epps ... Glock 17L, gen 3.

While in pics with that long barrel it looks to be a bit awkward but in all honesty once you get it in your hands it seems to grow on you. The trigger is much nicer than my G17, gen 4 trigger ... apparently the trigger bar is different as well as the trigger pull is only 3.5 ish lbs, I found it noticeably smoother with a cleaner break. I do think the longer sight radius does make (at least for me) a difference, my accuracy is better than the G17 ... how would it compare to the G34 vs. G17L I am not sure. One thing that does suck are the sights ... plastic adjustable rear with white outline ... when adjusted higher than the rest of the blade there is just too much going on with the different heights of the rear blade and the white outline and white dot front ... they have been replaced with a set of ZEV's (red front optic and full black rear) and that has made all the difference, great sight pic now. Otherwise I haven't done anything else to the gun, I like it the way it is presently and it's one of my fav shooters at this time.

My 2 cents worth ... thanks!
