Glock 37 vs XD-45 gap

don't know why you would want a .45gap but I'd go with a glock...

Glock isn't exactly the best looking gun but XD (5in) is even worst IMO. One thing I really don't like about the XD is the 'fish fin' grip safety. If I had the gun I'd tape it down so it's always in the fire position. (Ps; I do like the grip safety on a 1911)

just my $0.02

I chose a G37, because I love Glock pistols. I liked the idea of the same size frame as my G17 and G22. I shoot them all equally well and have come to love shooting the GAP. I have large hands but found the G21 to uncomfortable for me, so when the GAP cartridge was first introduced I was skeptical. However, after holding a G37 and a XD I liked the Glock way better, but hey I'm biased, I'd admit. Still longing for a .45 pistol of some sort, I went out on a limb and bought my G37. I have nothing but good things to say about it, I love the cartridge. I've tested almost ten factory loads now, and all are running at, or slightly more than .45ACP velocities, including +P's. An extra few fps isn't going to make much of a difference, so my first .45 pistol became a GAP. I'm sold, what else can I tell you?

The 45GAP XD is the same size as the other models in their lineup, they already had beefed up slides to allow an easy rechambering. Glock went with a larger slide after testing half a million rounds found some slide wear (duh!), if you are an XD fan, by all means, try out the GAP.

I never understood why people complain about grip safetys
Unless you hold the pistol by your thumb and forefinger, a proper grip will alway engage it. It isn't like it requires any actual pressure to engage it either.....
Have you actually fired the XD? What is it about the safety you don't like?
I'm not trying to be an ass here, just would like to know more.
I have a 1911 and an XD, both of which I find no issue with the grip safety.
I do find I 'notice' it more on the 1911....
As a side note, the grip safety is a fantastic Idea, I think more pistols should come with them.

I don’t mind grip safeties, in fact I did say; “I do like the grip safety on a 1911” I guess you must’ve missed it…

What I said was that I don’t like the ‘fish fin’ style of the safety on the XD, not that it’s hard to depress (yes I did handle the XD:rolleyes: ) it just looks bad IMO.

Ahhh... the 'looks' of it. Now I get it. I did read, and understood your first post, including your comment about the safety on your 1911, hence the  icon.
Speaking of  , that tape would look WAY better.... ;) :D

I don't even notice the grip safety on my XD40 any more, as it's a non-issue when firing the pistol. The only time I am reminded that it's there is when I don't depress it properly when I'm about to remove the slide. As for "looks", who cares...the XD is a service pistol, not an ornament like a...well....you know. :D

Because the ACP really trounces the GAP right?

Another thoughful insite from someone who hasn't even touched these two guns.

I thought that he might want to know that come spring that SA would be releasing a .45 ACP XD. Who needs a .45GAP when the real deal is available. BTW, not that it matters, I have handled and shot everything but the Glock 18. I prefer the egronomics of the XD.

The whole idea around the GAP is that it puts a major caliber in an already existing platform, 9mm or .40 sized guns. The GAP is not competing with the ACP, its the 9mm and .40 guns that suit the new round fine. It offers the ballistics of the ACP in a smaller sized firearm.

For XD lover, this is why they might be tempted, as the gun is the same size of the guns they are already familiar with. The new XD .45ACP is going to be bigger in the frame. Same idea as the G21. The GAP is trying to put these ballistics in platorms that are already popular firearms. Time will tell if its a good concept, the ACP has had 100 years of faithful owners backing it.

A .45 230gr. bullet travelling at 850fps doesn't care what size case it was fired from, ACP or GAP.

x2 exactly. GAP = smaller gun, and a smaller grip for small handed shooters. GAP is as good as ACP but the only people who feel the need for a 45 round are already 45 ACP diehards and good luck converting them.

Really? They don't load factory 230gr GAP ammo. Why? because it infringes too much on the powder space. All I wanted to do was give a guy my opinion and an option. If you disagree, fine but at least don't be rude about it.
