My friend can shoot 9mm in his G22 with a 9mm barrel. Can I shoot 40 S&W in my G17 with a 40 S&W barrel ? Do I have to change the recoil spring too ? Thanks.

No.. 40cal barrel wont fit into 9mm slide

The man is correct. The opening in the 9mm slide is not big enough to accomodate the larger barrel of the .40.

Unfortunately only way to go is with the bigger slide and put a .40 to 9mm conversion barrel like your buddy. I know that wasn't what you wanted to hear...Sell the G17 and get a G22 if you want a gun that does both.

One of the members on site here reported shooting 9mm, .357 Sig and .40 S&W from a Glock 22... with barrel +/or mag changes as required, of course...

I had a Glock 31 (.357sig) with a .40S&W barrel as well as a 9mm conversion barrel.

The swap between .357/.40 is barrel only and takes seconds.

The 9mm as simple, but you need 9x19 magazines. This conversion was also not reliable due to the fact that sometimes the brass would miss the ejector and not eject. But it didn't happen often and was still quite fun.

And 'course if it was a "carry" situation a guy would probably go with the .357 Sig or .40 cal for reliability, anyway. But the 9mm would be great to have for plinking since 9mm ammo is so available & cheap sometimes it's just not worth reloading for...

I realize this is an ancient post, but wondering if anyone GLOCK ARMORER knows if with the new Glock 17’s Gen 5 -if you could get a slide and barrel for a .40 S&W to allow the built to shoot 9mm Glock 17 Gen5 could safely and reliably shoot .40 S&away using a slide, barrel and magazines for the .40.

My understanding is that the frame is the same. The slide has to be changed to fit the larger barrel, and obviously the barrel and also the magazines. But these should fit the 17.

Does anyone know??

I realize it’s an odd switch. But it sure would be fun.

Yeah, and what’s going to happen is that people won’t see that and reply to the original posters not realizing the posts date from back when Pluto was still a planet. Just create a new thread. The OP hasn’t been online here in 12 years.

I’ve suggested before that there should be a maximum length of time that old posts can be replied to.

I'm not an armourer, and I haven't owned any Glocks past Gen4, but my understanding is that the frames on a Gen5 G22 and G17 are identical. You could use a Gen5 G22 slide/barrel assembly on a Gen5 G17 frame. You'll have to swap out the ejector but I think that's about it, everything else should be identical.

I mean Glock 17/22 and 34/35 always shared the same frame throughout the Gen's. I cannot see them changing GEN 5 frame to be separate that a 22 slide wouldn't fit on a 17 frame and vice versa.
