I know the topic has been discussed a number of times and I even asked a similar question a few years back but can't find the thread.

If I buy a Glock 22 and want to shoot 9mm, is it as simple as swapping out the barrel? And maybe mags? Do I need to make sure I buy a barrel for the right generation Glock? Any quality difference between Austrian and American made?

It cant be...the width of the breach face has to be different, or at least the spacing leftover by the extractor, no?

I know .40 is swappable with .357 sig with a simple barrel and possibly mag change because the casings are simalir (if not the same) in diameter

IIRC in the 40/9 barrel swap you need to switch out the extractor as well, I think the mags are OK? but reliability may be an issue?
I believe that you need to buy a "conversion" barrel, the Brownells one comes to mind.

I have a Glock 35 (.40 S&W) with a 9mm conversion barrel. It runs great as is. Ejection is not the greatest but still runs 100%. Nothing else has been swapped out. I am running original Glock 9 mm mags.

40SW to 9mm is ok, I had a G22 and swapped the barrel for a 9mm, and the breach face is ok for this conversion. You can use the 40SW mags, they are reliable. The extractor on my Glock worked perfectly, I didn't have to change it.

I just had it for plinking, but it was reliable.

I thought you can get a 9mm barrel that matches the od of the 40 barrel.

It's Negligible. I've had other pistols, one I actually own now that have a worse gap, bit sloppy! I Straight put in a GEN 4, 9mm Factory barrel, in my GEN 3 Glock 22. Nothing else, even use the .40 mags. 100's rounds, no issue, no noticeable.. anything really. Shoots accurately, no ftf, fte etc.

I dont shoot Competition with it, then you might want to put a proper conversion barrel..but for range play, it's fine.
I can measure precisely when I get home, but I remember, the space, I was barely able to fit a business card I had laying around between the slide & barrel. We talking .014 inch. Not sure how much tighter an actual Conversion barrel is, you'll be fine with either.
A factory barrel might be less expensive.

I just made a mistake with a Glock conversion. I was unaware all Glock conversion barrels 40 cal to 9mm were for gen 1-4 only. I bought a gen 5 G22 from a dealer the other week assuming all I had to do was drop in a conversion barrel. Not being a Glock guy I was unaware of the substantial changes Glock made to the gen 5 barrels and there are not any conversion barrels available yet that are readily available. Hopefully no one else makes the same mistake. I'm keeping it and hopefully the aftermarket catches up and there are gen 5 conversion barrels readily available soon.

How's your Google-fu? is mehh? lol The very 1st listing on a simple search shows Ba-Sto barrels, seems, they may be the only company making them atm - so Yes - they do exist.

Not sure how importing Barrels works with ITAR rules, but you can enquire with IRG etc. there's a few Canadian retailers who import from the USA, if no one is willing to stock them here.

*EDIT* had a few minutes to look around. I see that "az tech armory" {they do imports} have Bar Sto listed/ in stock on certain models. May be a good place to start. + IRG.
Cheerz ~

I had a Glock 22.3 that came with a Lone Wolf 9mm barrel that I bought off the EE many years ago. I had no issues shooting 9mm or .40 out of it. Just swapped mags and barrel, never the extractor.
