So, since taking possession of my Glock 22, I've been training on my manipulations. One thing I've found I may want to modify is the Mag release button...what are some good options? Is it relatively easy enough to swap on your own?

I personally like the Extended mag release, very easy to swap out.
Shot quite a few rounds of IPSC, IDPA, and practice sessions, without a unintentional mag drop. YMMV

The extended slide stop is another matter altogether, hated it, and went back to the standard one after the first time out with it. Don't really use the slide stop for manipulation anyways, unless I am setting the firearm down on the safe table

Use a screwdriver to push the magazine catch spring out of the magazine catch groove . Be sure to press the right side of the magazine catch with a finger to prevent the magazine catch from moving when starting to push the magazine catch spring out of the groove.

Start with the screwdriver (small bladed) to the left of the magazine catch spring (see figure 1). Push the spring to the right and then pry it out of the groove located on the bottom of the magazine catch (see figure 2). It The spring should be completely clear of the catch groove (figure 3).

Remove the magazine catch from the right side of the receiver (see figure 4).

When reinstalling the magazine catch, you will need to lightly pry the magazine catch spring toward the back of the receiver. This will allow you to get the magazine catch past the spring.

To reinstall, reverse the procedure.

I've never had issue with any other protruding mag release either, however, I have been fairly sloppy in land marking and activating the mag release on my Glock.

I'm taking her out to the range this week so I'll do some active shooting to determine if it sways my opinion.

Couldn't of said it better myself.

I wish you had posted this a few weeks ago, it's extremely easy to change out with detailed instructions, but without em, I was left guessing for 30 minutes.

it was the first thing i did, i hated the stock release, required me to move my thumb in a nonroutine motion. love the extended release, no problems with unintentional mag release

I assume it depends on the person, but for me I really hate the stock mag release, just doesn't work well at all.

What sort of after-market mag releases are available for sale? Where should I look for one.

I too have installed the extended mag release on my G17, as I was also having difficulties with the stock release. I have never had an unintended mag release either. it's a great option to install.

The factory release works just fine. Extended controls are not needed and will lead to unintentional mag drops.

Shooting my G22 for a few years in IPSC and heavy training with the OEM glock extended mag release and have had no issues with it.

It would be really hard to unintentionally drop a mag in a Glock unless you purposely hit the mag release. You need quite a bit of pressure to drop a mag, no way its coming out with a slight brush against the extended mag release.

BTW, I also run an extended slide lock on my Glocks and have had zero issues with unintentionally locking my slide back.

Extended mag releases protrude from the frame and will cause a mag ND. The issues so many have with the factory release is an intentional design feature. The release should not be easily accessed or activated and Glock designed their pistols to accomplish this. The extended slide lock is a useless feature. A slide lock reload(emergency reload) should be done by cycling the slide, not with the slide lock. The same motion is used when executing your immediate action drill of TAP RACK. One set of skills solves all loading issues and several potential malfunctions. The slide lock is used to lock the slide to the rear.
