I was cleaning my Glock today, and I noticed something wierd going on with the firing pin when I had the slide locked back. Basically if I dry fire, pull the slide back, and lock it, sometimes the firing pin is still protruding. Doesn't always do it, probably about half or one-third of the time. If I hold the slide and release it, letting it go slowly forward, I find that it seems to retract slightly before it goes into battery (I think that's the right term).

I figured it might be due to crud in the firing pin or the firing pin safety, so I pulled the slide apart and cleaned it thoroughly. Still does it now though, so obviously that didn't work.

Any ideas? Gonna take a closer look at the frame today, if I can't figure it out I'll see about taking some pics. (No batteries in the house for my camera.)

That is absolutely normal. Try this: With the slide off the frame of the pistol and the firing pin protruding from the breech face, pull the firing pin back with the lever. It should snap back into the slide and not come back out. Now depress the firing pin safety (round silver thing near the extractor) while holding the receiver muzzle down. The firing pin should fall and protrude from the breech face. The firing pin should not be able to move forward unless the firing pin safety is depressed.
