Glock G27 not going into battery after 2 or 3 rounds>?

Just received this from a board member, he was the original owner.

After firing a 3 or so rounds it will not return to battery. It will feed the next round but just not be fully seated.

Is the recoil spring too heavy? light? need replacement? Other problems? concerns?

I have tried 180gr and 165gr with the same problem, 2 or 3 rounds downrange and the next round with feed but not fully forward. Repeat. I put 50 rounds downrange today with about 12 FTF. Eject round, let slide forward under own power, 2 or 3 rounds downrange, FTT/bolt not fully forward.......etc...

I'm not limp wristing. Had my brother try it and same thing for him.

Any idea on what the problem is?

if it is factory loads I would suspect either a weak recoil spring, or the person had been using lead reloads in the 40 barrell and there is some leading in the chamber which is causing things to slow down enough when hot and gummy.

try cleaning the barrel... even use a good foaming product and let it sit over night, spritz it again in morning then clean when you get home from work.

Is it a lonewolf barrel? If so they have been reported to have pretty tight chambers in 40, if I isn't already polish the feed ramp and barrel throat.

Factory loads 165/180gr. Blazer and Federal.
Lone wolf barrel

The original owner claimed he only put 39 rounds downrange, had no problems or concerns.

Have the barrel soaking in some G36 and gonna give it a good scrubbin.

My Glock 27 has a BarSto barrel and will do that with some loads, especially lighter loads, even if they are factory loads (I do full loads in all my reloads, no wimpy ammo used). I suspect it is the barrel which is the problem. There are a few other possible causes:

1) Make sure that the barrel has the locking lug below the chamber actually cut for the G27, and that it is not just a shortened G22 or G35 barrel. They are not the same.

2) If you are using longer mags (obviously still Canadian 10-shot legal) to give you a better grip, make sure that your little finger is not pulling the magazine back, thus dropping the nose of the magazine. This caused problems in my wife's carry Glock when we lived in South Africa, and she used one of my spare 15-shot mags after a reload.

3) If you are shooting full loads in the compact 9-shot mag, stop after each shot and make sure that you have a good grip high up on the pistol for each shot. This is just to see if the pistol is actually slipping after the 2nd or 3rd shot, without you noticing it in rapid fire, thus not giving a solid platform for the slide to run on backwards to full compression of the recoil spring.

4) Make sure the mag springs are strong enough to lift the next cartridge up fast enough for loading the next round. After 2-3 or more shots, the spring has less compression on the top cartridge in the mag and thus less force pushing the cartridges in the mag up fast enough for a reliable chambering of the next round. The previous owner may have cut / made the springs lighter beacuse it is difficult to load 9 rounds.

5) If you are using a +1 mag shoe on the 9-shot magazine to make it a 10-shot mag, the spring is less compressed as in #4 above. Get stronger / longer springs.

6) Ask the former owner to demonstrate to you that the pistol is 100% reliable!

Took it out again this morning with 3 types of new ammo, 155gr AE, 165gr and 180gr Winchester and it is still not going into battery.

Slow methodical shooting, loaded the mags with 5 rounds each. No change. Every second or third round same thing.

Contacted the original owner and seeing what he wants to do with my now unsafe Glock 27 :(

A new out of the box G27 should not be doing this

Hey there. Did you resolve the problem yet..? I had the same problem with a Glock 31 that I bought brand new that had problems fully returning to battery and after thinking for a while and a bit or research, I realized that the mag springs were too stiff and affecting the speed of the slide returning to battery. To test the theory, I just left some mags fully loaded for a while until I felt that the springs settled a bit, and the problem is pretty much gone (although I haven't fired the G31 in a while..) I didn't change any parts or use different ammo and there was a noticeable difference. Hope that helps you out.. As a note, my barrel was stock and yours isn't, so that may be an issue as well, so keep that in mind..

All is well.

Put in a new recoil guide spring and that made a world of difference. New mags helped out too. I do have the occasional failure but I can live with that and the Lone Wolf barrel needs a few more rounds threw it as it is rather snug. It now digests everything without a hiccup. Put approx 300 rounds threw it and all is well.

It's a fun shooter and accurate.
