Just a heads up for anyone looking at buying the new Glock Gen 4 Beavertail Backstraps. They are meant for use on the brand new Gen 4's coming out. Not the ones made earlier. Even though they will work, you need the notch on the back of the frame to secure the backstrap in place.

If you have proper grip, the beaver tail is unnecessary. If you don't have proper grip, your glock will point that out to you in short order.

A beaver tail on a Glock ( I use a grip force adapter on a Gen 3) has other benefits, namely allowing you to get a little higher grip on the pistol, and allowing a more positive grip on the gun out of the holster. I thought it was not necessary either, until I actually tried one. I'm not big on adding a bunch of useless parts to any firearm, but the GFA is a solid improvement IMO.

X 2, very well put, and as a "lefty" I find the Vickers extended stop, mag release, in the same category.

True enough, but some people always want the latest & greatest gadgets. It's just a heads up for guys looking at them.

Been available as a third party add-on for some time for the first generations .. I have had them for some time .. I bought a 1911 and as I was teaching the Mrs. to shoot handgun felt her lack of experience may cause her to grip the glock to high wheb switiching from one to the other. The glock was a 21 so has a wider grip ...

I actually like how it works in my own grip .. Very nice that glock has made it available .. Can't wait for their " extended " grip next ..

I would not consider it a gadget ..

Beaver tail improves your grip by giving you more contact surface and probaly one of the only worth wild Gold mods other then the Ext slide catch

Too bad Glock doesn't redesign the frame to incorporate the beavertail like the M&P's and still have the standard adjustable backstrap for guys who need it.
