Glock Generation 4

I have a Gen 4 G22 bought last month. Still waiting to be fired. The more I read the more I regret my purchase. I was never big on Glocks... just goes to show I should have stayed with my previous line of thinking and just bought something else.

Regards,

The problem is mainly in the G17 and 19's where they put the G22 RSA into it when they first came out. I also have a Gen 4 G22 that has not been fired but on my 3rd RSA change. There is also a new ejector for it 28926. Still Glock Perfection???? One reason I bought a M&P9 Pro Series.

Good god pleaseeeeeere stop relying on the interweb for viable information. Go shoot it and love it like the rest of the g22 owners! The gen 4 was pretty much designed around the 40cal cartridge, most of the problems being reported are from the g17 as the double recoil spring is to stiff for the 9mm.

The best stress test in Canada is probably IPSC. The Gen 4 G17 I have seen put through its paces, with over 7000 rounds, has had no issues. The recoil spring did not hinder the slide cycle, with reloaded ammunition. It has now had the recoil spring changed to 11lbs, a cheap fix, and it still performs flawlessly.

I guess I'll add my two data points.

Two Gen 4 G17s, both with the 0-2-1 recoil springs, that I've owned for one year and eight months, respectively. Ammunition has consisted of a variety of factory loads ranging from 115 grain to 147 grain, usually WWB, Rem UMC or CCI Blazer.

The older one has had about 4800 rounds through it with a single FTE that occurred just a couple of months ago using 115 grain CCI Blazer. The shooter was a 12-year-old novice handgunner so I'm guessing limp-wristing was a factor.

The newer one has had about 3000 rounds through it with no failures to function of any kind.

Every once in a while ejected casings land on my hat though, so it's not a complete utopia.

Yeah, I believe it's a tolerance stacking issue between the ejector, extractor and RSA. If you get the wrong combination, headaches.

Of course I'm only going to be about 10% surprised if there is a slide issue as well.

I think Glock blew the opportunity to make some good changes, and instead made changes that don't matter.

The texture = better, that's good
Interchangeable backstraps....probably good, but seriously, no beavertail option? Come on
The finger grooves are still there instead of a flat, grippy surface, that should have been obvious
The trigger guard STILL punches you in the knuckle and has that stupid hook on the front for no good reason, although this is less relevant now that so many guys have lights on their guns now.

I have said this before but ONCE the fix the gen 4 issues, they should put out a G17 Pro model with:

Beavertail backstraps
Vickers mag and slide releases
the cheapest possible sights because everyone will replace them after 4 seconds of owning the gun
6 mags
A relieved, contoured trigger guard
CT grips

That I would buy.

I had a G17 Gen 4. Worked flawlessly and was more confortable than my Gen 3.5. However, I kept the 3.5 because it was easier and cheaper to get the spare parts I wanted.
