Glock Grip Reduction

Been thinking about it for a long time, either doing it myself or sending it to someone so it could be done.

Pulled the trigger and ended up doing it myself. Almost done, just need to smooth it out some more, paint, and stipple. Figured I would share. Anyone else try it?

Questions, comments, concerns.

Why anybody would do that to a perfectly good firearm is beyond me. If you need to do that to shoot better, the gun is not the problem.

why don't you get out of the thread? i have no idea what crawled up your ass, but it's HIS gun.
and he's suiting it for his needs.

Personal preference really, the way my hand geometry is I preferred to have more contact in certain areas, and less in others. Since Glock didn't do this for me, I decided to do it for myself. If one size fits all works for you fantastic, but I like to tailor things towards my preferences. I didn't do this to make myself a better shooter, I did it so a good gun fits better in my hand. If you look at the pictures closely , the work isn't symmetric, because one hand is different from the other.

Did you do just the finger grooves or the backstrap as well?

I did both actually.

I changed the grip angle to where the back strap (none were used in this) would go and removed the "hump" so it's like a 1911 profile but no quite. I also added a beaver tail and removed the excess material (I have big hands so I get slide bite sometimes). I rounded the trigger guard, and notched some grooves under the guard for my fingers as I found that they would rub a lot. I removed the finger grooves all together because they did not align due to the size/thickness of my fingers. I also added a groove/indentation to where my trigger finger rests when outside the trigger guard. I also elongated the original indentation for your thumb under the slide release towards the back as I have really short thumbs, this way I have more surface area contact on the frame of the pistol.

I'm not sure if it will improve my shooting, but it definitely is a heck of a lot more comfortable for my hands.

I assumed he was thinking about doing it, as he said. I didnt think he did it. I didnt think the pics were of his gun. Your right, if its your gun do what you want with it. Post on a public forum you get everybodys opinion not just the ones you like.

Nice work TANK! Have you tried buffing out the areas that you worked? Fine sandpaper rolled on a dowel (alternating the direction of sanding) will smooth it up while helping you maintain the curves.

Why anybody would think that any particular mechanical object is somehow too holy to be altered in any way is beyond me. If someone wants to drill a hole in a Glock's dustcover to be able to hang a Hello Kitty keychain off of it, great! We're not talking about a Garand or a Perazzi here.

Nice job. I have done several Glocks for myself and for some other guys. I am doing up some M&P's next.
Grip reductions and stippling. Lots of time involved, but the outcome is awesome. I have some pics on "Hammer Strike Tactical" Facebook page. Check them out.
It's really personal preference on what you want. Who cares what other people say. They said I was crazy when I took an angle grinder to my new out of the box Stag AR. Cut the front sight down and put on a free float rail.
Do what ever you want.

Not my cup of tea. The OP asked for thoughts, so here is mine:

Factory Glock Gen 3 = $650
modified Glock = $0 resale value

New H&K fully ambi with back and side straps P30L, totally customizable from factory, it will fit any hand = $1150

So there is that.

I tend to think that anyone that has given this serious thought probably doesn't plan on selling it. It's not something I would do though, but my Glock fits me fine.

If you go between multiple guns regularly, sorting out the stupid grip angle on the Glock can be worthwhile for sure. If you change the texture of the grip, you can improve it pretty easily in most cases.

They work fine (well, some of them) from the factory, but if you can improve the function and you don't care about resale, why not? I have a grip-reduced glock and it definitely saves me some headaches when I switch to 1911s. First shot times on the gun I haven't been shooting are a little quicker than before as I can train to a single grip angle. Saves me between .05 and .1 on the first shot from the holster. Pointshooting is more accurate after transitioning guns as well; with two different grip angles I couldn't reliably hit steels smaller than 12" at 7 yards without using the sights after switching from a 1911 to a Glock or vice versa.

Making the grip angles extremely similar means I can reliably do 8" steels at 7 yards just off a body index, with either gun. There is no real down time transitioning from one gun to another.

THAT is why somebody might do that to a perfectly good firearm.

Not everybody would care or could take advantage of this difference. For those that do or can, it can be an improvement for sure.

Thanks, I am planning on polishing it to smooth it out so there is a lot more to do before it is finished.

I agree, I went ahead assuming it would kill the resale value but for me I wasn't planning on selling it.

I have tried the HK P30L and it is a very point able gun, I prefer the Walther PPQ instead as the paddle is longer. However, because its about the size of a Compact, part of my hand protrudes under the magazine so It was a deal breaker for me. If they make a full size (I believe they do make the 5") I may look into it again.

I did ask for comments, regardless if it is good or bad, thanks for everyones input so far.

God himself has spoken. Lets all bow down at his greatness and rejoice lol.

Agreed, but if he is not worried about resale then do as you wish. I think these guns run fine out of the box.

yup, i would never buy a pistol that someone else grinded the plastic off... with that said im looking to have ne of mine stimpled just trying to decide if ill do it myself or pay someone else.
ill need a fake practive glock first though so i may buy a dummy gun.

To op good on you, I like how you went and improved on your gun to serve your needs.

I hate this whole notion that the grips are not the problem, it's how you grip. BS in my opinion it's a combination of both, hands come in many different shapes and sizes, people need to look and find what fits them the best, not to buy something and change your grip into it. There is a reason why Olympic .22 guns are shaped the specific way they are.

If the gun shoots better for him afterwards I will be shocked.

The gen4's have a very small grip and removing even more material seems like a bad idea to me. Unless the OP has the hands of an 8 year old, the grip will be too small to press the trigger properly.

I for one cannot believe that anyone would remove the epic texture of a gen 4, but that is none of my business.
