Glock mags unusually stiff?

Just picked up a Glock 22. Two out the the three mags I have are so stiff that the slide scrapes a dent into the first round when pulled back. It's very hard to get that first round chambered.
Are they usually this stiff? I'm going to keep them topped up and see if that helps.

The slide is scraping the first round when you are pulling the slide back or when you are releasing ? Assuming it is on the way back, does it pick up the first round properly ? The slide should not be "scraping" the top round (unless I am misunderstanding your problem). Why is it hard to chamber the first round ? Does it get hung up when feeding or does the mag "hold on" to it ?

And yes, Glock mag springs are notoriously stiff when new. Use a mag loader to get that 10th round in or risk having sore fingers.
 
Yup Glock made damn sure we wouldn't be able to fit 11 rounds in their 10 rounders. Good thing too, any more than 10 rounds can be very dangerous. Leave them loaded and they will soften up, or buy some 15/10 rounders.

It's on the way back where it is so tough, once back it chambers the round just fine. Here's a pic showing how the slide scrapes accross the round.

Leave them loaded for awhile. With new Glock mags I usually leave them loaded for several months in my rangebag and forget about them. The springs are stiff and after some use and some compression they will soften up and work just fine.

You aren't riding the slide when you release are you? Let it snap forward, there's plenty of mass there to strip of cartridges, even on new mags in my experience. Until they soften up, maybe load the mags into your Glock with the slide locked back, then there isn't any pressure on the bottom of the slide.

All BS aside, just leaving them loaded will help matters.
 
I've got a Glock M21. With the slide closed, fully loaded mags (10 rounds) won't latch into the grip without vigorous operator influence. Then it takes the strength of Thor to rack the slide and the first round into the chamber is not just scratched, but very dented :eek: . After thousands of rounds fired, it will still does this but to a lesser extent. I gave up a long time ago trying to load 10 +1......I imagine that firing a dented round is not to good of one's health. I've heard that the legs on the bottom of the mag follower can be ground down a bit to aleaviate this problem???
 
That's why at the range I always open the slide first, then put the mag in, then close the slide. With 5 it's not a big issue, but I still prefer to load that way. No scratches.

For zombies n such, I prefer a primary 8rder so easier to rack when closed, followed by 9's, and 10's if I can ever get 10 in a mag! I hate Glock mags. :mad:
 
I have a Glock 21 , no experience with any other Glock .
Their are two types of magazines available for my gun , 13/10 round per ban magazines and 10 round magazines made during the US mag limit laws . They are built differently . The 13/10 mags have never given me a problem , the newer ones are a pain . I trimed mine and adjusted them so they only take 10 rounds but are a little looser , didn't totally cure it but helped a lot .
I measured the new mags width empty and full and the difference is suprising , the old style don't change .
Wish I could find more old mags .
 
i found it hard to load a full mag in a closed chamber for IPSC so i switched to all G17/10 rd mags. The rivets were too long but 5-10 mins with a dremel tool solved all problems.
