I've got a gen5 g17 and a 48 coming. Figure I might as well make a list of parts I should have for repairs, wear and tear.

What do you recommend to keep on hand, and what websites?

I got to thinking about this topic a few days ago when the recoil spring on my Sig P226 broke. I've shot I don't know how many thousands of rounds with it over the past six years, so I figure I was probably due. I ordered two replacement springs from Calgary Shooting Centre, just in case the first one breaks five years from now and parts are no longer available.

I see a few stores have "parts kits" for various models of handguns including the Sig P226. Is that a good investment?

Good advice here already, here's my two cents:

Recoil springs and magazine springs are consumable items (mag bodies as well, actually). If you shoot a lot, you will need replacements. How many replacements depends on how much shooting.

Trigger spring and striker spring will wear out eventually, but aren't exactly consumable in the same sense as the above.

You can get parts breakages anytime, but particularly when your round count really gets up there. And some parts are more prone to getting lost during disassembly. If you're a "belt and suspenders" kind of person, one spare of everything is reasonable.

If you don't want to go that far, after spare springs across the board I'd go for striker assembly (with extra spring cups as well), pins, and slide cover plate.

Is there anything to watch out for as far as brands/model numbers of various parts?

I've done some poking around but have a hard time knowing what recoil springs to get...could probably look into it more, but was wondering if anyone had any detailed advice for a Gen 5 G17.

Thanks!

OEM parts are best for springs. Glock recoil spring assembly or "RSA" is what you're looking for.

I also wouldn't hesitate to use Wolff springs with the right aftermarket guide rod, but Wolff wasn't exporting to individuals in Canada last time I checked. Factory RSA would still be my first choice.

As for "upgraded" fire control parts (if you want them), stick with the commonly recommended brands. The Gen5 trigger is pretty good though (at least by Glock standards).

Used to be able to get Wolfe springs from Brownells, and they will ship. - dan

Pretty close. I went to place a $120 a couple of weeks ago... They wanted $63 USD for shipping... :(

Just ordered a bunch of factory glock parts from black box customs. (Site sponser). They had most in stock.

Got recoil spring and extractors / springs for 2 different gens plus a few other things.

Cart said free shipping but at check out it was $15…

I would agree with all of this. Given what we know is coming, you don't want to dead in the water in a couple of years from now due to a simple yet unobtainable part.

Personally, I only shoot my G5 34. But my back up parts include:

BNIB G5 34
BNIB G5 17
Double of every OEM slide part, including complete firing pin and captured recoil assemblies.
One G4/ G5 Nomad lower kit. A few OEM lower parts.
Various aftermarket Wolfe/ Taran Tacitcal springs/ misc. parts.

I don't shoot 5k rounds a year, maybe a 1k really. But redundancy is key for me going forward if this is the last opportunity to procure pistols and eventually parts.
