Glock Prices

$550-600.
Given that current/ex LEO, Armored Car, Military, Paramedic, Firefighters etc. can get NEW Glocks from Police Ordnance for $639 plus tax and shipping, I think the price quoted could use to come down a bit.

Means squat if you aren't one.

Not that I'd advocate doing this en masse or anything, but are you sure you don't know anyone in those professions who might like to "test drive" the gun and then decide whether or not he/she still wants it?

really? this is exactly the kind of behaviour i'd encourage if it means arming everyone in the country. but i'm a borderline radical freak who should open a gun store.

Wouldn't that be kind of close to a straw man type deal? Me personally I'm happy to let the guys who have (or continue to) put their lives in danger for me get a break when it comes to fueling their hobby.

Keep in mind that LEO prices for Glocks are DIFFERENT from the factory. They are subsidized by Glock as a marketing and PR gesture and understandably so. Same reason that cellular sales reps pay a much subsizidized price for their cellphones that the public will never see. The manufacturers WANT their product in the hands of the people who are selling them or where it is simply good marketing to have them, in this case with LEO, etc. No mystery there.

There are plenty of good deals on Glocks out there and I have bought both privately and through Police Ordnance... prices are not terribly different and with PO you know that the weapon has been meticulously serviced (trust me... I have known them for 25 years; nothing goes out the door without being examined with a magnifying glass - going all the way back to their computer days. Nothing.) To me, there is a much greater feeling of warm and fuzzy purchasing a weapon that I know is not going to fall apart the first time I put a heavy load through it. I have actually seen that happen over the years (fortunately nobody was hurt or killed... but it is a scarey thought to see cracks appear after a shooting session while packing up to go home).

PO, by the way, doesn't only carry GLOCK. They are also a manufacturer/distributor for some other stuff not available to the general public. They also, as many may not realize, carry a varying range of pre-owned pistols from time to time as various police forces, etc., update their service arms.... some available to the public and some not. I believe they have a load of Beretta handguns in at the moment at very reasonable prices and if I can scrape together a few more bucks I am going to be taking a close look at their current offering of Berettas - all refurbished, well maintained and ready to go.

Jeez, to save $100 on a Glock I just might change my career path (my second career) and become a security guard! At Walmart... then I get a good deal on ammo as well!

About 3 years ago I picked up an "excellent" condition used 2nd gen 9mm Glock 17, in factory box, with papers, accoutriments, and spare 10 shot magazine for $400 from a 'dealer'... he had a few at the time... needless to say they sold out pretty quick... should've bought 2 or 3 at that price... :(
