The receiver for the G17 and G17L is the same. So no problem switching uppers. http://www.glockfaq.com

Make sure you want both sizes and look at total cost . If all you are wanting is a standard G17 , they are 799.00 new . Check Questar banner at top of forum ... http://www.questar.ca/

I was most interested in acquiring a 17L until I found that they were discontinued about two years ago by Glock. I phoned Smyrna and was told that the reason was that the 17 L did not fit into a standard/regulation IDPA box. The G 34 , which I eventually purchased is the quoted replacement for the 17L, but the barrel is about 15mm shorter.
Later, I learned that Glock were/might be planning a limited production run of 17L units late last year.
Nice frame and balance[for me ] for both for 34/17L - I am sure that you will enjoy either...
