It may sound weird, but I just bought a ''new'' Glock 17 that is, like I said, supposed to be brand new.

The serial number starts with ''DSL###US''. When I'm checking in Glock talk forum, it says that this serial number was manufactured in 2000...

Also, the Trijicon tritium sights are also marked ''00''.

So, have I been misinformed on the fact that this G17 is supposed to be new?

What do you think guys?

If it is what I think it is, I'm f****:mad::mad: :bangHead:

Many thanks

hey look on the "bright side" those tritiums are starting to dim.... I bought a Glock 20 last fall, its build day was May 07.

So 2 options as I see it:

1- I got screwed

2- The gun have been siting somewhere as NIB (unfired) for the past 7 years

Either way I'm pissed, because it is a NEW Glock that I want. Not some old stuff that have been gathering dust for years...

Again your opinion gents?

I don't see what the big deal is. Unless it's been sitting in a bucket of salt water, there's been no wear and tear on the gun. If it's the current generation of the gun, Glock hasn't changed anything. So it's been sitting in a box.. it's no different than a dealer sitting on inventory he can't sell for a (long) while.

Look at it this way - it's not like you were told you were buying a 2008 Lexus, and ended up with a 1976 Honda Hatchback.

I'd just shoot it, and be happy with it. It's no doubt a great gun.

Well, I see your point and I do know that I'm picky, but my concern is that a new gun doesn't normally sit on a shelf 7 years or so. Especially a G17 in a store that sees a lot of turn around.
When I'm looking closely at the gun, I can see that there is a lot of crap in the extractor hook (just to tell on of the places). Maybe the gun haven't been fired much and is almost new, but you know, when you pay for a NEW gun, you got to have what you have paid for. I haven't been given a special price, just the regular price that you can found now in many location (new 2008 low price). Any person who buy something has the right to be told the truth. I never buy used, slightly used or mint. Just plain new.

So back to my question, do you really think that a gun made in 2000 could be really new? I think that he wanted to get rid of it.

I don't think it matters if it's unfired. If you wanted a NEW glock, but got one from 2000, with 7 year old night sights, I'd be mighty pissed. I always check serial numbers first...

You didn't mention that at first. There's a big difference between 'new', and 'hasn't been fired much'. If you paid for a new gun, you should get a brand new gun, covered in the grease that the manufacturer ships the gun in. If you suspect your gun has been fired, bring it back.

If it really has never been fired, it'll be no different than one that just came out of the factory. (except for the tritium in the night sites).

Is there any copper lubricant to the rear underside area to the area of the slide? All new glocks come like this.

If no, then you have a concern. I would be pissed buying a 8 year old pistol sold as "new"

New ??

If it's "NIB" and unfired I don't think it would bother me, but it's hard to believe a popular gun such as a Glock has been in stock for seven years. But just on the basis that the night sights have deteriorated after several years, I would return it.
