Just curious - would a glock 19 top end (slide+ barrel assembly) fit and function on a glock 23 frame? I know the 9 mm mags will fit into the 40 cal frame. I realise there would be the whole issue of registering the additional top end and calibre with the pistol frame etc etc, but what I am asking about is strictly the functional ability.
Thanks.

There's no need to register the top end. Changing caliber does not affect the classification of the firearm. Furthermore you have 30 days after the change to contact the gov. Who would know how long the different top has been on the frame and whether or not it has been there the whole time.

I just purchased another top end for my G17, same caliber - should I register the top end with the CFO? Would the different Ser. ## on the new slide and the original frame generate a problem?

say I buy a .22 sig and get a 9mm slide, then sell the .22 top end, can I just call and re register as a 9mm?

No and no....the registration of a handgun follows the lower receiver. The mismatching registration numbers may make the pistol harder to sell, but technically it means nothing.

Think about it like an AR, people change uppers, barrels and other parts all the time. If the caliber changes permanently, I would update the registration information.

For ar15, only the lower receiver has a serial number.
For glock.. Both the top frame and lower frame has serial #

Doesn't matter, you can't register two parts of the same gun. Only the receiver is the registered portion of ANY firearm in Canada. Seeing as how a slide is useless without a frame/receiver and vise versa, only ONE needs to be "tracked".
