Again question to those who know and tried both of them.

Glock17 is 950 and XD750, two hundreds in price diff.
Is Glock that much better to spend extra?

Thanks for comments.

If price is the determinant, go with the XD...the Glock offers no significant
advantage...
As always, see if you can trial them side by side, and you might find one 'feels' better...go with that choice.
I've had both and they are both great guns!

I would go for the XD and spend the $200 saved on mags, ammo and a holster. The XD is a fantastic gun.

Find which one fits you better. I have an XD9 with about 10000 rounds through it...shoots great. I don't like the glock grip angle and the XD just felt alot more 'solid' to me. I think the XD looks better as well. The grip safety might be an issue if you aren't used to one, but after a couple of mags through it, you won't even notice it anymore.

I'll vote the other way and vote for the Glock. They are easier to modify, there are more accessories available (though things are catching up to the XD), and if you are LEO the price difference is minimal.

For me, the glock was easier to tailor to my specific wants (extended mag and slide release, lighter trigger, etc) and I have a slough of extra parts should I want to replace anything (or, heaven forbid, something breaks).

That said, the XD is an excellent gun (love the grip and ambi mag release).

I was going with the Glock for the same reasons as Gorky, easy to add parts. As well, if you break anything, Glock parts are real easy to come by in Canada where XD parts can be a pain to find. I am a self confessed Glock fan, I find the XD's a little bit sloppy in the fit and they don't feel as good in my hand as a Glock.

I like both. Have a very little chance to try them at my range, we have pistol shooting guys, but not too many.
So I have to rely on your word. So far I have got .45 and .357, and this year I would like to add .22 and 9mm.
I like the idea behing Glock but red good stories about XD pistol which is made in Croatia if not mistaken.

Greetings,
RB

With the glock you can acutally get parts for it, also the glock has 35 dollar mags where the xd mags are more. and 935 is a bit much for a glock 17, armco sells them cheaper.

The standard price on XD mags is $36. Not that great a difference.

i find the XD more 'pointable' but that's me... you should try to handle both first... the XD mags also seem like better quality /w the staineless steel bodies...

ive also got both guns...man its a hard call. I like them both. they are very similar yet at the same time different. The feel is different. The glock is much more popular for accessories etc. But the Xd's are coming along for availability.

I agree that you should handle both, if possible, before buying. The biggest real difference is in the grip, so how it fits your hand should be a primary consideration. I've shot a Glock 22, and I own an XD .40, so that's where my opinion comes from.

The XD has a 5" barrel, to the Glock's 4.5", so the XD feels slightly more front heavy, IMO. You also get a slightly longer sight radius. I find that the XD feels more solid and sturdy, less like a toy made of plastic (I'm definetly not suggesting that Glocks are fragile). The finish on a Glock's slide is very tough ... the finish on the XD's slide is .... not. I prefer the stainless steel magazine bodies for the XD over the Glock's plastic based mags. I find the XD grip a little slippery, since it does not have finger grooves like the current generation Glocks. I intend to add a Hogue Grip Sleeve to it, and I expect that will make it even more comfortable. Although the standard XD sights are quite acceptable (and made of metal, to the Glock's plastic sights), I'm also considering replacing them with night sights. The dovetail in the slide for the sights is the same as used by Sig, so lots of aftermarket sights are available.

I'm not sure if this is also true for the Glock, but keep in mind with the XD if you get the .40 S&W version, you can get a drop in 9mm barrel for the best of both worlds. You can't go the other way.

Especially taking into account the price difference, I'm very happy with the choice I made.

In the spirit of pissing off the Liberals, I think you should buy both. :D

I find the XD has a really small grip but other wise I think I like the XD design (because of the grip) better then the Glock but the Glock feels nicer in my hands with the grip so I would go with the Glock!!!

Another vote for Glock, When I first got mine I wasnt all that impressed buy it but I have abused the hell out of it with NO hickups. I wouldn't buy anything else
Hunt around there are deals on The Glock

Lots of good info guys, thanks.

The reason I want to buy handguns is IPSC. I got my Springfield1911A1 in .45 and I can shoot this in standard, but I would like to have a DAO for production as well, so I was looking at both Glock17 and XD.

Speaking from experience, I had the same difficult choice, go with the Glock or XD. I tried both (several times) and was always a fan of the Glock. But at the end of the day, the XD won and I have been very happy with it ever since.

I own and shoot both. G17 & an XD40. It's all in personal preference, shoot them both if you can side by side. Then pick one or both.:D Alot of people say the XD has a more natural pointability,I agree with this, but it's all in how much you practice and get used to that particular gun. I had to buy both, shoot IPSC with the G17, 6000+ rounds not one failure! The XD40 approx 1500 rounds not one failure. Both with factory and reloaded ammo.
I've read that the XD is really growing in popularity with some US police forces. Here is a real cool XD chat site, also agreat place to order parts/mags ext.

I hope that's permitted here, sorry if it's not let me know I'll edit. Xray

Depending on how the election goes I'm strongly considering getting an XD9. Where's the cheapest XD9's (5" tactical's) located in Canada? Preferably some place with a web site and mails since I'm not up for driving to BC/Alberta/Out of Ontario.
