I was wondering if it is legal to use gloves in IPSC. I will be competing in Production. I looked through the IPSC rule book I have and found nothing referring to gloves.

The reason that I want to use gloves is that I have developed a skin problem on my left thumb (I'am right handed), it leaves the skin very thin and it can be quite uncomfortable when racking slides, doing mag changes or even shooting as the thumb rests on the edges of rail on my USP Custom Sport.

Nothing that has been prescribed for the problem has helped and I have an appointment with a skin specialist in mid-August. Until than I would like to use shooting gloves for some extra padding.

Thanks for any advice.

There's no rule against wearing gloves so I'm quite sure they're allowed in IPSC.
We had one fellow wear one on his right hand (he's right handed) in a level II match here in Manitoba just yesterday.

bkir

A number of shooters out here use them. No reasons needed really. Some people do it due to work, some cuz they like gloves.

I wear my gloves even when practicing, just because my hands gets sweaty very fast and I shoot CZs and you know how CZ slides are. I find them giving me more grip on the gun compared to my sweaty hands.

hello,
I use gloves because I too have sweaty hands, its just that wet, and its expensive to buy those progrip or suregrip powder/ creme, with golves you only buy once. IPSC is silent when it comes to gloves. as long its not white ALA MICHAEL JACKSON Im sure its okay......

I wear them usually for the first outdoor match of the season or the last one....only when it's cold or cold rainning match...I'm using a pair of baseball batter glove..between stages I uses a warmer pair.....cold hands don't move and don't grab thing's very well, because of the lack of feeling in the fingers...

one of the new girl shooters always shot my Glock with a glove on her left hand, since the extended mag release would dig into her palm...

I always wear gloves...I dunno why but I find my USP grip really slippery and moves around without gloves. I dont find other polymer pistols a problem without gloves.

I have worn gloves in at a 3 gun. The shottie got hottie. I would have burned my hands without the gloves.
Other than that, I feel cool wearing gloves.(LOL)
***note to self----Self,...Don't wear latex gloves for 3 gun.(not really)

Thanks guys, since it seems okay I will have to pick up a pair. Any recommendations from those that wear gloves. Baseball gloves were mentioned, shooting gloves obviously, I have also seen power tool gloves at the hardware stores, I guess any of them should do.

I use Hatch Operator CQBs for Tactical Rifle matches. I love em. Specifically tailored for a pistol cradle :D. Should be available at your local police supply house, or alternatively, I saw some hanging on the wall in Dave's Surplus (click the banner) on the weekend. Slightly pricey and worth every penny. Should be around $60 CDN.
