I'd like a set of gauges for my M14 rifle, but these that I found at egunworks are $28.80us each + $25 handling outide USA orders + shipping + 5% GST at border and perhaps brokerage! Needless to say, these parts are rather lavishly priced and I don't even get a ___________ (you fill in the blank). :D Can someone help source a more cost effective set? I don't want to make them. Thanks.

If this is a once off thing, I'll lend you my gauges for the cost of return postage.

One or two guages don't tell you much (ahh Ya I'm some where between out there and scary). One needs a full set of 10 or more gauges (which I don't have) to make any sense of the situation. Primo expensive.

If you're just looking for a spot check send Hungary or myself three spent casing and we can provide an average chamber length for you.

If you want to do the casing check yourself get a RCBS Precision Mic. It measures head space and free bore in one tool. Very cool, and very usefull if you reload for 308 bolts as well.

PM if interested.

Now you know where the "Money Pit" thing comes from. Gadgits.... I need more gadgits

I have used gauges, and have more than once read about measuring spent cases, do you mind sharing with me how you measure the spent cases to determine headspace?
Do you use a caliper and measure the expanded case ?
Thanks in advance .

"...It measures head space..." It's a case guage. Has nothing to do with headspace. Cartridges do not have headspace.
"...$28.80us each +..." Reasonable price for a precision made guage. Brownell's runs about the same for Forster guages. Clymer's are $25US each.
"...Field Reject..." Field. Not Field Reject. Not that it matters. You only need the No-Go and Field. The Go is only needed if you're installing a barrel.
Try Epp's.
