If you could or did build the perfect go to rifle what is or would it be? Something with good barrel life, easy to get stuff for, not a huge long range boomer, something still usable enough to use for long range hunting, whitetails coyotes ect. Not a full blown f-class rig or something done to the nines tacticool style just a "classy" if you will, long range very shootable useable rifle.

My remington 700 LTR in .308 is a great rig, it's got a heavy, stock barrel that's 20" so it's not too long or heavy. 308 has all kinds of bullet selection and with my current loads I maintain 1000 ft/lbs of energy out to almost 700 yards. I would never shoot at an animal at that distance yet, but I'm just saying that I could. It's a great rig stock, but if you do anything, glassbed and upgrade the trigger and you'll have a good start. Brass life rocks, barrel life is wicked, great all around gun in my opinion. I hunt with it, I target shoot with it, it's my go to rifle.

Even something in Rem700 SPS 308 varmint would do you fine, there is no need to spend a load of cash, saved for scope and other accessory.

"Go to rifle " for what? Survival, hunting, combat, target, big game?

For survival: .22 so i eat fresh food every day, bush gun:30.30, long range :.308, big nasty animals: 45.70...... see what I mean? whats the better gun. If not survival, I'll take a 30.06 over anything.

My go to rifle is a Steyr Prohunter in 6.5x55. Super accurate with a variety of bullets and loads, with respectably light recoil. FS

Sorry man, I stopped buying Senderos and factory guns a long time ago.

I discovered they are still too heavy to hunt with, have barrels that foul like a pig, and have purposeful stocks that don't fit any purposes.

Further down the road I discovered tactical stocks, scopes, chambers, triggers, and well everything there too.....Made for a fairly mediocre F-class setup....They don't hunt worth a chit either.

More to my point...These days all my rifles have a focused purpose...If I have lost some class while being focused...Well, it wont be the first time.
I will say I"ve never had a guy look in my safe that didn't feel a magnetic attraction to something in there. :D

Sorry i wasent very specific. What i meant was what is your favorite go to Precision rifle. Something that isent a barrel burning fire breathing long range boomer thats costs 3$ a shot. Something to take out when your sick of fireforming and load tuning and just wanna ring some steel. And something still usable enough and simple enuogh you could teach someone with it. I was thinking a stiller tac 30 mcmillan a5 stock Maclenan barrel jewel trigger in something like a .260

30-06 and .308 have near identical ballistics, except that 30-06 has increased recoil and a half inch of extra/useless case capacity.

Into which you can put more slower powder and get another 100 ft of MV with the same bullet, or launch a heaver bullet at the same speed.;)

So you still have my Styer Prohunter in 6.5X55, please keep it in mint condition.
Don't put any scratch on it.

260rem are very pleasant to shoot, had 3 done on rem700, 1 on styer pro hunter.
magic load for 260rem, =45.5grain of H4831=2650fps 1/2" or better.

both of these caliber are very pleasant to shoot, also look at 270win, 25-06 .
