Goex black powder plant had a fire...

Well...

This is most certainly not good, with the losses of Elephant and KIK powders, losing GOEX would be a huge blow to the black-powder community. This would most likely appear to be stemming from a risk/benefit assessment of GOEX going something along the lines of: Hodgdon already owns the majority of BP substitute powders which are much safer to manufacture, the plant still poses a giant hazard even with modern production capabilities - this fire likely rang some alarm bells at Hodgdon HQ.

So in essence, the continued production of GOEX is still dangerous and eats into the market share of their other less dangerous (to produce) BP subs. In their eyes, shutting down GOEX production not only eliminates a huge risk, it also likely will not impact them too bad financially as their substitute powders will just regain a large portion of the market share. And it's not like they need to keep it around for the money right now anyways, most of their smokeless powders are just flying off the shelves in the USA so fast stores have trouble keeping stock.

I don't really agree with it, but as a large company it isn't total nonsense to choose this avenue

Schuetzen Powder distributor of Swiss this afternoon indicated they are assessing the Goex situation. Maybe they will step up and take over.

With repeated explosions and fires at the Goex plants, I ll bet insurance has become prohibitively expensive, or impossible to obtain.

I hear Swiss black powder made is more consistent. Did someones experienced it?

Yes, Swiss has been a superior powder and is used at Competition levels in both BPCR and MLAIC. However Goex's Old Eynsford has shown a lot of promise in competing with Swiss for accuracy at a lower price. More competitors have been trying and shooting OE. I have found using OE has given me single digit ED & SD. That being all said you need to try and see what your rifle likes best.
