What do you guys think the best way of taking a .473 bolt face down to ppc size [.445 I think ] I had a conversation about doing this a few years ago with an elderly gunsmith who has now passed away.
He suggested silver soldering a piece in and turning but I am concerned it would anneal the bolt lugs a bit to much has any of you guys ever done this.

differant fixes for differant guns.
You sometimes can get away with altering or changing the extractor to work.
I have seen the recess filled with Decon and machined out to suit. The problem really isn't the Diameter it is whether the extractor slips off or grabs .I have seen 98s that will grab also pre64 Win70's Sometimes you can replace the extracter in a Rem 700 with one out of a 760 or 740 and they will work Installing a Sako extracter is often a viable option

Randy do you think I will loose accuracy if I leave the bolt face at 473 I always like to see things centered seems like it holds everything lined up better.I was even thinking of jb welding a piece of tool steel in there and spin it in my lathe .If I use a 98 action I have lots of spare extractors to play with and by the way what is decon is it an epoxy based filler.

the bolt face has nothing what so ever to do with any type of alignment.
Ive had lots of guns with a .473 bolt face and chambered them for both 6PPC and 22PPC as long as the extracter pull the empty out youare good to go. Of course if you want a repeater you have to look at feeding issues.

Devcon is epoxy filler is in the can steel aluminum cast brass etc.

I should refrase the bolt face needs to be flat to the chamber but diameter meens nothing other than to lock the case head in position for the extractor. Old 98's and other guns with claw type extractors had half or more of the head recess dia milled off to accomadate feeding this was ok because the claw had a way to grab against the small portion that was left. if you could make the extractor grab without a recess you could leave the face flat like a single shot (ruger #1 win 1885 etc.(

Now that I think of it my smle's bolt faces are flat I mean flat I think I'm on to something here .randy I never looked at it like that before as fare as tthe bolt face being square to the case head I always reface it if it needs it.

I mean reface when I rebarrel if it needs it I've been rebarreling for quite a few years I'm always trying diferent calibers me and a few buddys built a 685yd range 5or6 years ago I shoot a lot of paper Im building a 6x47 lapua for long range but I got a hold of a few reamers lately one being a 22 ppc so I figured I'd try one I've got 3 22 br's they shoot great but I heard the 22 ppc might even be finer on accuracy so I'm playing.
I checked the ppc case in afew .473 bolt faces last night that will work like you said I'm going to try one on a bevin king barrel blank light varmint 1-14 that I have here I'll see how that works.
