season opens in my zone Nov 1 and I got leave for the first 3 days + saturday

so thats 4 days of deer slaughtering. :) should be just long enought to fill the 3 tags I have at the ready.

Last sunday I was out and watched a doe and yearling for about 30 min wandering and feeding within about 30 yds of here I was sitting.

the whole time I was thinking bang bang bang and trying to think of senarios where I could get them both with one shot :)

I guess I'm taking the 300WM this year :)

Curious minds would like to know, if you would care to elaborate, on how this works?

Well here in Alberta the wildlife biologist have determined we have a proble with too many deer :) in some of the zones.

In these zones you can use your general tag to shoot an antlered or antlerless whitetail as per the regulations for the zone.

Now in the zones with too many deer :) you can buy a suplemental tags that allows you to shoot an additional antlerless whitetail, some zones you can shoot 1 and in the zone I normally hunt you get 2 suplemental tags :D

So count 3 whitetail tags, thats without any draw.

the biologist have figgured out that if you want to reduce populations of deer you have to shoot does not bucks. One buck can service 30 does each rut so killing bucks really does not slow down the deer population explosion.

Most to the does I've seen so far this year have had 2 fawns, as last winter was not hard on them.

Now the zone I am going to hunt has mulie deer on the draw only, why because the same biologist have decided that they need to reduce the number of mulies being shot there, down south there are zones where you can shoot mulies with a general tag. I applied for the mulie buck draw in my zone but no luck.

Same with Moose in my zone, bull and calf are on the draw only, and no draw for cow. Some zones moose tags are either antlered (bull) or antlerless (cow or calf) and other zones specify calf only.

Other zones up north you can buy a general tag without having to be drawn for the tag.

So in summary

general tags (about $31 each) can be bought and are valid in zones that have a general season.

Draw tags are valid only in a specific zone and you have to apply and be lucky and get drawn, also each year you apply but are not drawn you increase a tier in the standings and have a higher chance of being drawn the next year.

Suplemental tags :) are for zones that require population control, they are about half the price of normal tags (about $16)

Now if you have a draw tag for moose you can't buy a general tag without giving up your draw tag.

Some of the special deer draws you can have both draw and general, and multiple tags etc....

:runaway: now if your not confused someone figured out that if the stars align you can end up with well over a dozzen tags in Alberta for deer moose and elk every year. :D :dancingbanana:

but I really don't know what I would do with all the meat :D

same thing here. my brother, father and I can take 9 white tail altogether, and thats before draws. Throw a moose in for good measure and you have lots of jerky, sausage, steaks.

Anybody wanna get a deer come to AB. In our WMU you cant go through the bush without tripping over one.

Some places up north you can also buy a general antlered moose tag because tey are way overdrawn
