My girlfriend and I are going to be taking a vacation to the QCI for the 1st two weeks of August. It's my first time there and I'm wondering if it's worthwhile for me to get a little deer hunting in. If this was a "hunting trip" in the fall I wouldn't be worried, but since it's a vacation during the summer I'm dealing with a bunch of extra hassle that I wouldn't ordinarily have to deal with.

First of all, I won't have my truck, I'm taking a Subaru Forester, which is decent but not a true 4x4. But I'm not afraid of doing some hiking and I figure packing a QCI deer out of the bush wouldn't be too much of an issue.

Second of all, it's August and I expect it to be warm, so that means keeping a deer cool or getting it butchered right away. I don't want to be keeping it on ice for days on end, are there places on the island that will butcher game?

Last of all, I'm not familiar with the terrain. I grew up in Kitimat so I know what to expect from a coastal zone, but what about the island, is the island way worse or similar?

Thanks for the input!

I as there last summer. Deer all over the place. I shipped salmon and halibut home to Sask using a company called Seapack QCI in Masset. Fish cleaning, vacuum packaging and shipping air freight cost $4 per lb or kg, can't remember which. They MIGHT just be willing to ship your venison back for you. I'd suggest calling them.
Terrain was very moderate from what I could see, travelling from Queen Charlotte City to Masset.
