Ok guys iim heading down to the states on the weekend and was wondering if/what paperwork i need or any to bring ammo back??
Never done it before and figuered i would ask guys in the know!!
I do know im allowed 5000 rounds or less but any papwr work needed??

Thanks

Well, it is doable, but it takes 2 months ish to get all the paperwork in order from the US......

Canada doesn't care as long as you keep it under 5000 rounds or primers (combined). But it ain't them you have to worry about.....

Export Permits are required from the U.S. State Department due to ITAR restrictions. The CBS states that you can bring in 5000 rounds. The U.S., on the other hand get their panties in a bunch if you take it out of the States.

I guess i should have mentioned i will be going to buffalo gun center to fondle and look at some unobtainium tpys and thought i could bring back some ammo with me after running some arrends. Oh well ill just put up with the prices we deal with

The ATF frequent parking lots of gun shops and gun shows close to the border. Beware that they do record license plates and will have US Customs stop you before you enter into Canada. So just be careful.

I winter in Texas and bring my firearms and ammo with me. Once you get the drill down for what I do, the paperwork is not a big deal. This year I brought 3000 rounds with me as I am a member of a club here and compete regularly. A lot of my pistol ammo is Wolf Reloads. Not only are my costs reasonable but I guarantee availability. For at least two years we would have to drive from store to store to buy 45 ACP.

I buy S&B .223 in Canada by the case and can't find significantly better prices here. Possibly the biggest saver here is bulk .22 but that's no big deal if you use 2/3 thousand rounds. I buy the .22 here for the most part knowing I won't have any left at the end of the winter.

All my firearms and ammo are listed on my ATF forms. I'm perfectly OK with the requirements and just get started two months or so before I leave Canada.

While ammo can be cheaper in the states, it isn't cheap enough to have to go through all the hassle.

Filling out some papers is a hassle?

If you buy 4 boxes of ammo maybe.

But we are talking large quantities and higher priced ammo, as well as ammo not easily available here.

More than worth it to do some forms, You can saves hundreds!

A simple example would be Federal Gold Match in .308. $1.10 a round US. $1.60 a round CDN.
.50 cents a round x 1000 rounds. $500 savings.
