I'm looking for an old or new .22 pump that would cycle even 22 shorts properly. Should have good open sights. Can you please point me on a reliable model?

Thanks

I had a rem 572 pump. Very reliable. Tube fed, open sights, groved for scope if you want. I see wholesale sports still list them, lots of cash---$459. Another would be the FN made in Belgium, some call them the trombone. They are very well built and will also shoot shorts. Seen them on here for less than a new rem-----Cowboy

If you can find an old winchester 1890 (scarce), 1906 or model 62 they are loads of fun. My 1906 and 62 although quite old are quite reliable. While the Taurus replicas of the model 62 are apparently quite well done they apparently will only handle long rifle. There are also the Rossi (since bought out by Taurus) gallery pump and the Henry clone of the model 62 but I don't know about their ability to handle shorts- I suspect from its name that the Rossi Gallery should handle shorts. It seems from reading the boards that the Winchester originals, particularly the model 61, are superior to the Rossi & Taurus models

Like the other two said, a Remington fieldmaster is a wicked pump gun. I have some Marbles sights on mine and it is deadly accurate. Its out of commission right now though, the firing pin is broken off. I cant really say I blame it, over the life of the gun there must be over 500,000 rounds through it. My Grandpa used it, my dad, and we have all put many many rounds through it.

I hate to sound like an echo but I also have a Remington Model 572 and also highly recommend it. It's a very high quality, and very accurate gun!

I also have a Rossi Garcia Pump carbine and I find it a lot of fun for plinking but still prefer the Remington, especially for hunting.

PureEnergy,

Try Western Gun Parts for the firing pin. Under $40 when I need one. (Cant remember the price though!)

I have shot both the Trombone Belgiam Browning made by FN and the Remington 572. Both shot really well. If you do not want to shoot LRs out if it, try finding the .22L versions. They handle shorts well. If you decide on a Trombone, I know where there is one forsale at a local gun shop.
