good ammo for first shotgun

I just got my first shotgun, a 3" 12 gauge pump action. I need to pick up some ammo for range blasting. Since there's so many varities of shotgun ammo, I'd like to get a good cross section of what's available, to run the gamut so to speak.
Here's what I'm thinking of so far:
-3" magnum slugs, I have to try the high recoil stuff
-buckshot of some sort, O, OO, OOO, something else? 2 3/4 or 3"?
-birdshot, something light?
-#4 shot?

Any suggestions on what I should get? Any brands to definitely try or avoid? This will all be indoor, so no steel allowed.

get what ever is the cheapest if its just for range blastin.

Go to walmart or CT and get a 100 round box of birdshot/target shot for ~$20.

"...all be indoor..." The shot, of any size, will bounce all over the place. Save the shotgun for outdoor shooting.
