Good boots that won't break the bank?

Not walking through swamps around here but wet snow is most likely.

I know when it comes to work boots I have to get a size or 2 smaller than I wear in a running shoe so buying without trying on is not an option.

Kenetrek comes to our gun show and a friend of mine swears by them, but he did get the $400 Montain Boots with the 1000gr insulation which is double my price point at this time.

Gagnon Sports in Oshawa, Ontario has all Irish Setters on 40% off. Check out their website, they will gladly ship. I personally wear Rocky's and I love them, but I picked up a pair of Irish Setters for my Dad for Christmas.

If they are on sale for 40% off the website price it is a VERY good deal. If the website shows the actual price with discount I will go with WSS at $210.

Thanks

I'll never buy a set of boots again with hook eyelets

Bought a pair of Vipertech's at the beginning of the season and they're awesome. Super warm (1200 grams of thinsulate), waterproof and lightweight. It'll be interesting to see how they stand up as they go for around $134.99 a pair. The only thing that I don't like about them is the lacing as they are a 12" boot and run eyelets all the way to the top. Hooks on the top half of the boot would have made them easier to lace up, but other than that I'm impressed so far. DEnded up getting them for my son, wife, 2 of my friends and now my nephew wants a pair.

I have 2 pair of boots with hook eyelets and they will be the last I own. I don't know how many times those bastards have tripped me when the loop of the lace from the other boot got hooked up on the other boot.
I've pinched them closed and only lace half way up as they are closed eyelets.

Ive done the funky chicken walk when the boot laces got caught. Its very embarassing tripping all over the place.

I try to avoid boots that the laces can tangled up in.:)

I bought a set of Brownings with Thinsulate and Gore-Tex a few years back - very comfortable, warm and dry.

I have wide feet, and could not find a Danner that was wide enough or comfy. The shoe guy claimed that they use a relatively narrow last - no idea if it is true or not.

Also, be sure to get a sole that is made of top quality material.

I had a pair of Rocky boots that I called the "Boots of Death" - the slipperiest damn pair of boots I ever owned. I did go down on wet Canadian shield rock while hunting in them. They are deep in a landfill somewhere .......

Most of my other outdoor boots (hiking) are yellow label Vibram. Quite grippy and tough. The Brownings are something else, but also not slippy.

I had a set and liked them but the soles came off during the first season. Next set the same thing.

They are 40% off the website price (the site is not the updated price). I paid the site price before the sale began, and when they went on sale they credited my card for the 40% off. Their customer service is great there.

Same thing here, I should have sued the boot company for loss of beverage.
Always keep your pant legs pulled down over the hooks or your going for a ride.

I have Danners and Irish Setters and both are great boots. However this year I also picked up a pair of Muck Boots and the other boots have mostly been unused since getting them. I find them surprisingly good for walking in (I dogged 12 days in very hilly country in them) and decently warm while sitting.

Dunlop Thermos (Puroforts) if not already mentioned. It's the most common boot in the northern bush and I've worn them at an honest -40 (not a windchill -40). Great tread, and amazingly warm, every assumes they're a rubber boot and cold- not so. Combine them with Bama socks and you're good to sit all day if you had to.

I am losing 5 toenails from this falls hunting thanks to PI$$ POOR ROCKY BOOTS.This has been going on for several seasons so I'll either shotgun the boots so some other person doesn't find them or take an axe to them.............Never will buy that brand again....Harold

Why not go full 'Delta' ? ;)
